Malboro Challenge: Arkadius Vs Hazardous

Alright, my buddy Arkadius and I have thrown the gauntlet down.

I've been looking for some friendly competition for a while, and since im not doing unearthly I figured it a good chance to get chargin on a monster model.

Creature: Malboro
Polycount: 10.000 Tris Limit.
Textures: 1024 diffuse, spec, normal, glow etc etc etc

Alright I'll make the first attack, I usually go high poly to low, so I should have a decent amount of subtools at the end O.o and I will retopo as needed, its looking like I wont need too, I just need tertiary and secondary form. details will be covered by the texture.

Most everything was sculpted from a block.

HAha duuuuude nice !!! I love this already, great start!! I like the fact that hes on a fat stalk with some tentacles fanned out around him!! those ones hanging down the front look great too man, overall i think this could really be turned into a nice malboro!

Okay its my turn to get my ass into gear!

Okay! Blockin out the main body mass and some teeth, slapped some quick colours on there - will start working on the base tentacles and some eye stalkification now!

Blocked in some movement tenties, and also like the idea of bringing out the things I remember most about this guy, TEETH + MOUTH + TENTACLES!

So Ive decided to make it mouth within mouth within mouth ( or thereabouts ) and I'm going for mega eyestalks and mega tentacles, like the old school ones!

Awesome man. I'm loving it. It captures the the essence of Malboro, I feel like hes gonna unleash bad breath already! The mat cap test and colors are coming out nicely and is giving a good indicator on how it will look in the end.

Blocked in some back tenties, its starting to feel like malboro to me now, i wonder if i should make him a king malboro just for a strange touch haha!

this is really taking me back to my final fantasy 3 days. arkadius's version is a really cool interpretation. more horror flick inspired it seems to me. reminds me a bit of the little shop of horrors. Hazardous' entry reminds me of the one i remember. really looking forward to how these look once they get textured. keep up the good work.
