Concept: (Image Coming Soon)
3 wartime inventors suddenly found themselves with a workshop filled full of destructive devices when peace broke out. Their inventions no longer served a purpose or had a buyer. Seeking to capitalize on their ideas they sought to re-purpose their ideas for peace.
Using the Worlds Fair to introduce electricity as a viable source of mass power, the 3 inventors stage an impressive end to the domination of Coal, Fire and Steam.
YESTERDAYS
Experimental Wartime Device,
The
ELECTROPROPULSION GENERATOR
Harnessed for
The Peaceful Nations of
TOMORROW!
Demonstration at Sundown.
You are a super spy of the 1880's a dapper man about town and a lethal force for justice, at least so you thought until you received your latest mission which could very well be your last. Your mission is to rig the once dooms day device turned peaceful, to cause an adverse chain reaction killing a lot of innocent people. And by doing so, solidify the worlds coal and steam power producers as industrial giants for centuries to come.
This is the hardest choice you've ever had to make, do you:
A) Rig the device to cause a catastrophic event?
Or
Sign your own death warrant and tip off the inventors?
We know you will do the right thing. For steam and crown!

We'll be hitting the modeling real hard, soon.
Essentially, people gathered to view the demonstration at sundown, only to be vaporized when the device malfunctioned.
PRETTY confusing looking, I know. It's all mish-mash and it's a bitch to read. Angle and fov stuff isn't 100% decided yet, so don't take the hack as final.
The comp doesn't show all of the other details that will be added later of course, such as toasted bits of concrete, facade buildings, broken windows, etc. Lots of scorchy marks and such (think ghost buster beam marks) - all that kind of crap will be added, just not to the comp. We wanted to toss out a rough idea, since we know where we're going.
Here's more of a refined shot of the machine. Things will probably change during modeling, so this may not be final.
we noticed a similar pattern of pieces being worked on!
-Pillar of light destroying something
-Future city/Modern city fighting//being destroyed by aliens
-Viking boats (seen around 4-5 of these for some reason)
-Portals to heaven/hell//somewhere else
-Floating citys
-2012 natural disaster
-mayan temples
Went as far as to check the russian and chinese forums and even there seeing a similar pattern!
So the idea originally was to do something "happy" as a ending.............
BUT since we never got a answer about our robot city idea! (You be Slacking Adam! )We decided to do a Victorian style theme.
After much brain storming and ideas being tossed back and forth and concepts being shared back and forth and photo hacked together We bring you this piece!
We will have new updates soon with the initial block outs into unreal to test our scene out and begin lighting!

We wanted to do something different. When looking at the other entries, most fall within a few categories, so we were trying to stay outside of those.
While trying to do something positive at first, we couldn't come up with an adequate positive idea in time.
While our theme might be negative now, it's not a world-ending event. My own feeling is that this "end game" is the end of an era, the end of steampower. At the 1893 worlds fair, electricity made it's first big public debut with Tesla and Westinghouse powering the entire event.
I can only imagine the feelings people had when seeing electricity for the first time, afterall it's something we really take for granted these days.
It must have felt very alien and menacing, like their whole world was ending.
The art style is going to be a mix-mash of victorian, deco and steampunk. So late 1800's, early 1900's.
With a little tweaking you guys could incorporate that into your idea... maybe get sci fi like that movie "The Prestige" did and do some Sci Fi things with tesla powers. Maybe this machine has come alive after feeding on human souls and must now be stopped? Has a romantic ring to it.
Just a thought, i like how different your guys' theme is, but I'm just giving you guys a heads up from what i think they're looking for.
It doesn't say it has to be the ending of a video game level, just implies that as one possibility. I think the scene implies the essence of two words, though perhaps not as directly as a portal to hell or some alien death ray.
If Adam wants to chime in with clarification, that'd be dandy.
Indeed, well played Vassago
But yea as Vassago stated I wasnt trying to make it come off as other entrys being dumb , just was alot of entrys we saw that we wanted to do something different with!
Edit: So yeah, was only offended because I was buzzed/ retarded. Anyone else who got offended i would assume was drunk/ retarded also. Good luck to everyone, lets hold hands and sing
But, I would expect nothing less from a team of polycount all-stars,
Looking forward to see more!
- yeah it's a harder topic this year definitely - i didn't want to take it literally so i thought the theme as an 'and of a era', but also convey the loss and desolation of such an end.....
whereas you can depict that with lightening bolts GALORE!
pew pew
you've so gotta include a victorian dance-off between eddison and nickola tesla....
Also, you guys have a rad icon.
The overall concept is still too noisy and needs some organization of values so hopefully that will translate into the 3D version.

And no, this does not have to be the end of a game or a boss battle. Just something that illustrates any sort of thought or emotion you may get when thinking of 'End Game' within a videogame art contest.

Awesome work on the zepplin, Remi. Looking forward to seeing it in-game.
Keep it up, mate.
Reference and Blockout from earlier in the week:
Today's Progress:
I managed to squeeze out a few hours this morning to sweep in some molding and toss some shapes around, still quite a bit of work to do, haven't touched the clock face yet and it needs fancy iron work but its getting there.
The cables are too loud, detail-wise and (obviously) aren't hanging correctly since they're just instances for the render right now. But I wanted to show something at least.
Should have something more to show soon.
could you show the polycount?
That's the cage mesh, which is about 180k for everything. Granted in hindsight I wasted a lot of time as most of that doesn't need to be modeled high poly (like each tier of the coil, since they'll just be duplicates in the low poly).
Progress... It is mostly unwrapped with some modeling left to do around the clock face (those will be gears) and on misc bits here and there. I'll probably start the textures this weekend if Halloween doesn't get in the way...
