I stillllllll think you should try and push the outside edge's a bit (the left building, where the walls are blown out) just to make it pop a bit more... or maybe increase the spec on those steel support beams.

Looks so tasty though!
Ill go ahead and try that right now, thanks Jason.
awesome man! i think the rocks around the tree are too large and almost blending in with the tree, scale them down by like half and myabe add smaller ones around that to help make it look like its being pushed out of the way.

this has been one of my favorite entrys so far I really love the coloring you have in here it has such a painter feel to it it really catches my eye!
that being said I really thing that background tree could use some more love to it , it seems like the eye catcher but that tree still feels like it could use some more to it to make it really pop(like honestly it feels kinda stumpy to me and not so grand huge
perhaps if you made the floor sink a little lower and had the tree seem a bit taller that way?
Hey guys, thanks for some more crits. I'll see what I can do about adding those in further into the week.
Here is another progress update.
Added
-More lighting changes
-Changed the grass so that it is affected by light
-Added some subtle godrays coming from the tree
-Increased the spec on the metal beams
-Added a little bit more color variation to the tree leaves(red/orange)
I think it does look great, but in my opinion, the tree trunk comes off as heavy braided wire...not that i can do anything like this...it just doesnt look like the shapes that bark make, even from a distance.
I personal like the tree trunk as is... I mean yuh you could technically add more detail to it, but I think it would only "noisey" it up in the end... I think the style of the trunk also plays well with the overall art direction of the scene.
You said you added some god rays (i can't really see them myself) but that kinda gave me an idea, maybe if you increased the intensity a bit more, and maybe make them longer, it could help cut away some of fog density which at this point (to me) looks like its sucking the tree in too much,,, even if its in the background I think you want it to pop a bit, maybe increasing the intensity of the god rays may do so... maybe. If anything its just more contrast to add too... maybe :P
Either way I love it... and I'm thinking this is defaintly one of my top 3 favs!
Katana - Thank you for the crit, our plan was to make the tree be more unearthly and exaggerated.
JasonLavoie - Hey man thanks for the support and crits . Let me know what you think of this progress update. I tried to make the changes you critiqued.
Changes
-Lessened the heightfog density around the tree
-Added more contrast with the post processing
-Made the god rays coming through the tree more apparent
-Changed the way the metal material looks in the foreground
-Made the smoke have a more orange tint to it
I was thinking of rotating the godrays a little more towards the camera (I see where your lightsource is coming from now though). And yuh, I also agree with what Snight said about that metal, too much spec on the closer ones to the camera (but the ones sticking out of the building I think are good) also.. it could be because they are more silver... maybe try adding a more rustier colour (just a bit... it may push em back just enough so they don't catch the viewers eye as much).
-Added a bit more grounding elements near the base of the building
-Changed the metal back to the old one
-Made the foreground a tad darker
-Added more foliage to the tree
i like it , i think you should push that color contrast even further, increase the blue itensity and maybe give a more direct sunlight or different lightning to the house, since it kinda distracts awesome work
yeah maybe, is it possible to have the camera peek around the corner of that building, so you get to see something in the second pic that is hidden in the first? Looking awesome by the way.
THANK YOU Polycount for all the critiques and help, couldn't of done it without you guys!
I tried to look around for a more dynamic second angle, but nothing was looking to my liking. Your idea was really great Peris, I wish I had more time to work on that part. Unfortunately, I am graduating this quarter and I need to get a lot of things organized!
Kelvin, great entry man! I am super stoked for you guys! I know you were up all night and day working on this thing the last couple of days so great effort and execution.
are those sunbeams shooting through the tree from left to right? if so, that's too dark for light beams imo. they look like smoke or dust or something.

Looks so tasty though!
Ill go ahead and try that right now, thanks Jason.
I was about to say the same think.
Looking awesome otherwise!
Thanks for the crits! I did some additional changes to the lighting, rocks, and tree.

Crits:
-I still think the tree leaves need to be a bit more dense, its looking a bit flat atm.
-Personal taste, but I'm not really digging the new spec on the metal beams. It makes it pop too much and doesn't really fit in my opinion.
Otherwise, lookin sick man!

I don't care, tbh, but others might.
