Soooo... First post for this challenge. I'm going like kinda traditional with the endgame theme. I want to show the last passage of the game with the target to be reached. I'm thinking of an Portal to another place while the world around you is collapsing into bits. I had another idea of a throne in mayan style, but I think I will go with the new Idea. I think it really has potential, when I get everything right what I am looking for.
Inspirational architecture is like gothic and renaissance style. More Renaissance. Had been to Budapest last 11 days so I had to do something in this style, cause the city is full of it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buda_Castle
sweet artstyle, id say be sure to look at some other threads including gameartisans, you may be surprised by how many other teams are also adding portals as well, best of luck!
Yea... portals... its like... not innovative at all, but I think its okay. Standard is okay - you just have to present it really good.
Cause I want to keep this updated from now on here is a sketch I made recently. Its not a valuestudy, just to get a glimpse of what is the environment of the portal. The collapsing world is just implied in the sketch. I will have to look at this when having this concepted out.
Thanks Killing.
Got along with it today and decided to not just let you move straight over the bridge for reaching the top but going detour. You have to first cross the whole palace with tooons of mallusting enemies befor reaching the last intact bridge to the gate home to a safe place.
You enter the plateau on the side of the broken bridge. You can't be seen there and you can take a rest befor going up the last few stairs to face your last opponent.
For my beautyshot I'm going to place the viewer on the other side of the broken bridge seeing his aim. Seeing that there is no way to reach the platform this way you have to search another through the palace.
So, another update on my entry. Coming along pretty well I think. I'm starting to like it.
I marked the ways you go to get to your aim in the world in the first sketch. I rotated the Portalplatform in the second sketch so I have symmetry in the building.
There are two ways to the end, but just one up to the portal so you don't think right before the end 'whats the right way?'. Second is a fast valuesketch based on the second sketch.
I want the player to enter the palace right where you stand in scene as viewer. You see the middle platform and 2 ways to it, but one of them is broken and can not be used. So you go intentionally to your right. The path with high valuecontrast on the right gives you a hint where you have to go to get to your aim. You can't forsee the whole way, but you can imagine.
One of the strongest 2d's i've seen so far. Just checked the main site to see what you're up against, you're easily in the top 5... if your project was up there
Thanks a lot dudes! Really motivating! For 3d it would really be a huge thing to deal with. I had modularity in mind, but I think for a 2D entry it is not thaaat important to look after that, but well, it is good for me too, saves a bit of work in Photoshop.
I am searching for some colorreference for what I am going for, but I have just found one for the portal.
Around and especially in the portal there will be a cool, spring morning in the mountains atmosphere while the world around it begins burning and crushing down. I also think I will have to add more... destruction in action... ^^
Will update soon I think.
So, I managed to get along with this here. Have built up my scene in 3d for better understanding and for choosing my final view on it.
I changed ratio so you are looking a little bit down the middle. Looks cooler in my onion.
Second shot is the beginning of the lineart. Want to get this one clear. Will go on tomorrow.
Thank you guys. Gift is what I got today. I hope I can close the sketch tomorrow and go to colors. It's about time!
I also added a foreground so you see where you are standing and it helps the overall depth of the scene. You can also see some stairs which lead you the way in the first place.
Soooo,
After my server having a little coffee break for about a week or so I am back with what I have this far.
I finished the line drawing with too much detail. Click it for highres.
After having finished the lines I came back to values and colors and made some thumbnails. In the first I decided to go with the one in the middle in the lower line.
In the second one I prefered the first thumb. From there I am recently working on details where necessary. Will update soon.
the one in the middle top row of this last picture looks great too me just with maybe a little bit more red/orange in the lights and some nice specular shines here and there and it will be killer
So, as mentioned I choose the one top left for detailing. I hope I can finish this tomorrow or in the next 2 days, so I can give this a final stamp.
Here are 2 steps, picture is how far I am atm.
So, didn't really got it done in that 2 days, but now I think I can call it finished. Gave everything today another pass and added atmoshpere and stuff... yeah... done I think. If someone finds anything really disturbing, I have still got time!
Will do the modeling and sketchsheet this weekend and then, done... omg done is such a nice word!
Really nice work, I'm sure it could be a pretty funny (and long and time consuming) scene to do in 3D . Well if you absolutly want a critic...the rock on his knee is bugging me...giving me the feeling that you know that it's gonna fall...but it doesn't then I'm focusing on it >.< , kinda stressing but well it's personal O.o;
So, got some comments and crits from some guys and washed over it again. Fixed some issues like the floor in the front to be too attractive for the eye and added some dust. Took a little black out of the smoke in the background and and and... Have to do the sheets now.
Wow. I cant wait to see it, Im curious how your going to get the shoulders lined up with the building, ive got my eye on this thread. This concept is great. The scale, combined with a bit of claustrophobia.
Thanks lots dudes. I submitted my final yesterday.
Albino, I don't really get what you mean with geting the shoulders lined up with the building and stuff? I am really done, so I can't change anything anymore. What is a really good point. I felt more like screwing up than makin something better when i last worked on it.
So, here are the 2 sheets, nothin really special, just a quick summary of what I did.
I guess I shouldnt have been so vague. looking at your sketches sheet, #2 & #3, the point at which the building meets the statue holding it up, is the building built "around" the statue or simply on top of it?

nontheless. looks great!
Its 2 scribbles over the last perspective and some preproduction for the coming Lineart.
Two scribbles are about making the design cooler. Not sure about both.
Cant wait to see where this goes.

If I were to work on this level I'd make that broken arm hollow and put a secret weapon in there. Really inspiring work!
Good luck with the entry.
