My ambition is to just be happy with whatever ends up happening. I know I have a lot going for me and my future is pretty secure. My ambition is to ski every winter that I can, ride my bike as much as humanly possible in my free time and learn how to longboard. Also learning guitar is pretty high up there on the list.
Simply put, my ambition is to improve myself as much as possible and take whatever happens in the future as well as I can and swing with those bitches punching at me. A winning attitude is important.
Is that because you want to work as both during your career, or because you see environments as grunt work / a stepping stone into character work?
Both, really.
Originally I wanted to get into characters, but I lack the skill many others have in the area (especially with regards to anatomy). For the past year or so I've been focusing more on env work and I'm really enjoying it.
I was hoping to work on the skills I lack with regards to characters, while I focus on environments, and eventually work on a few characters on the side. I doubt I'll be good enough to actually work as a character artist any time soon, but it's something I'm interested in for sure.
Just from talking to a few people, I thought environments would be somewhat of a stepping stone, but to be honest I don't know any better I'm still a somewhat of a newb.
I want to work on more AAA games...
I've worked at small studios in the past making mediocre stuff. While it's good and all, it doesn't get the attention of big games. I like to see people enjoying the stuff I work on. Working at Turn10 was a start in that direction, so hopefully I can continue that momentum.
As for ultimate goals, being a lead artist perhaps. I don't like a managing a lot of people, but if it's 2-5 other artists, I'd be cool with that. I've done it before and it was okay, heh.
I've always thought it would be cool to go up into space, maybe even the moon and if at all possible.... get totally out of my mind hammered with some really kick ass music playing in my space suit.
I'm not joking, picture how cool it would be to go up into space and just party your balls off.
To finish my portfolio and get a job in the games industry making environment props. Along the way get rid of my pot belly by working out more, find a decent woman and have a big family!
maybe one day get my first job in the industry :O... become a senior artist... make some awesome art for awesome games with awesome other artist and finally kick EQ awesome in the nuts until his voice sounds like that from a little girl, maybe it helps EQ to get a bit closer to his wish :P hrhr i only want to help
- Become a great artist, and be really confident and proud of my art.
- Land a job at id Software and/or Epic Games.
- Start my own small indie studio with a bunch of rad dudes who love to make rad art.
- Fight and defeat Adam when I go to Canada (then snuggle and eat ice cream).
Immediate goal(and cause I'm tired and not feeling all that introspective right now): To actually make it past a year at my current studio WITHOUT getting laid off and ship the game I'm working on. I know, it's crazy.
And I'd like to work overseas at some point, also without getting laid off. :P

Failing that,
become a well-known and greatly respected character concept artist making designs for triple A games that young artists will look at and say, "Dear god I wish I was half the awesome as that person" as I say now about great concept artists.

I'm not joking, picture how cool it would be to go up into space and just party your balls off.
I do not wish to party to the point of my balls falling off. I will need them later in life... hopefully.

ZacD: Using both hands doesn't count man.
I thought it did when you numb them both first...
