i installed 3dsmax9 on windows7 and tried to run it in winxp sp3 compatibility mode, but it just starts, opens the tips window '(which doesnt show anything) and then freezes
good to know,- will avoid winVista+ for a little longer then
btw. did you run the 32bit or 64bit version? - I think you have a higher probability to run it in a 64bit environment with the 64 bit version mainly because of the dotNet compiled controls instead of the former activeX components which are not supported anymore in WinVista and windows 7 I believe, so it could be the reason perhaps.
This may be a stupid question but did you install both service pack 2 and hot fix x64?
Last thing I HAD to do to run max 9 was turn off "user account control" which btw is a bloated piece of nonsense anyway yet it conflicted with the program!! If win 7 has UAC be sure to turn it off as it does nothing for protection unless you have some other people using the computer that you really don't trust!
There will be many services you can tweak and turn off to boost performance, plus btw I turned off win updates alltogether as soon as o/s was installed (inc background intelligent transfer) it seems I have no issues and a super fast pc in return.
nat thats not it, it looks like its frozen in viewport but it isnt
edit i mean the mesh, not the program (looks like ricktcklick freeze selection thing is on)
Service packs are key for Max 9, I could've told you that before you started: Vista came out after Max 9, so they fixed compatibility with an SP. Transparent thing might be videocard drivers. Maybe try OpenGL mode ?
