I think it's sorta like Robocop 2's (Caine's) face; a projection of sorts.
If they had explained that even a little it wouldn't bother me. Even a small flicker or some scanlines would have done the trick, but they make it look pretty real and only lit by a light in the helmet. Maybe there's a reason behind keeping people guessing, that's the bummer about trailers...
I'm sure if it is a projection we'll know for sure when we see more but right now, based on what I've seen it looks funky without an explanation. I mean they went nuts with ankle wrinkles and not just on the guy in the look out, on the riders too. They couldn't have screwed up on something so major?
But then again they did kind of screw up on the pin striping on the suits it looks like it UV compresses toward the neck, wait that's design and I'm starring at a still... but... if they zoom in and work on it on pore level, they need to give every area that level of detail.
The animation is another wonky bit. Are they trying to make it look CG some of it is damn amazing, other bits aren't. Is that on purpose?
But that's all just fuz around the edges, easily ignored in with all the awesome going on.
I hope for a TronGuy cameo in a sleek redesigned black outfit. I really do!
Bummer it's not human actors in the computer world, hopefully this is temporary. This trailer is a year old after all.
What I like the most ... is the crystal clear audio. The heavy, saturated digital stomping noise of the bikes when they land, the sharp sound of the latex suit sliding on the glass ... it really ties it all together. Kinda still hoping for bolder colors tho. Somehow I find this one trailer to be more conservative than the original movie.
One thing to keep in mind is that this is not actually a clip from the movie. This short video was done as a test to see if they could pull off a 'next gen' tron, and to pitch it around to see if there's still interest.
From what I gather, this video is more like a vertical-slice greenlight type demo, rather than a scene from a full feature.

Vig, have you watched the high def trailers? You can see that its actually projections of sorts with a TV like line interface on the faces.
What really bothers me is the whole "Flynn Lives" phrase being tossed around all over the place. Of course Flynn lives! He never died! WTF
I'm guessing nobody knew he got re-digitized, I believe the plot revolves around his son trying to find out what happened to him and getting digitized as well.
vig- why do you want it to be explained the point of a trailer is too pique interest. un-answered questions to make you see the film, but yeah i thought the digitised aesthetics/glitches on all the humans were fairly obvious in the high def, and the slightly otherworldly anatomy also strikes me as being a fairly brave decision to make them un-human, just think of all the obvious routes they could have gone.
Pior,- yeah will probably sound like an advert for THX
Wait a minute... Hollywood is making a sequel to a pivotal film from my childhood, and from all angles it actually looks like they're *not* going to fuck it up?
Gotta say guys, this is looking swish. Totally different feel from the old film, but theres something there thats making my inner geek scream with joy.
The women are also hot as tootles. Yeah. I made up my own word.
However the music is lifted right off the Normandy...? What up?
EDIT: Which in no way is a bad thing at all, because ME's music was amazing. In fact I can see why people are stoked for the sound track, I bloody LOVE the trailers music, even more so the distortion at the end... I think the geeks coming back ut of me.
still looks promising! above all, even if its a complete bomb at least it means new daft punk!
And a new Daft Punk tour to go with it.
Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski described his meeting with Daft Punk as being a mysterious pancake breakfast in L.A. And yes, they were wearing the helmets. Asked if they tour in support of the soundtrack, he said there would definitely be Daft Punk Tron-themed events on the horizon.
Isn't that what disney is all about oxy? I think you're majorly screwed. It's like telling Epic to not make games about guns and big burly men.
Yea, your probably right. Though TRON original still wasn't exactly your normal Disney film. (Maybe in part why it never did that well at the box office since people saw Disney and expected something totally different).
When I saw this at the midnight showing of Alice in Wonderland, I think i was the only one in the theater that was excited. 'Course, the theater was filled with young, emo kids..
This new trailer has me way more excited than the earlier stuff they released. This has just transitioned into my must see list. Seems like an odd Christmas time movie though.
Oxy: Tron was a safe family feel good film. It was a popcorn adventure. I'm not sure how I feel about them making Tron dark, gritty and 'hip'.
Tron a safe, family, feel good film? Wow, I don't get that at all. The film creeped me out when I saw it as a kid. Sark and the MCP were some seriously menacing villians, watching Ram just get outright killed, damn near slavery and death by high-tech gladitor games... Even the look of the movie was some scary shit sometimes. As a six year old, imagining a Recognizer bearing down on you... I *still* don't like looking at those things - fucking soulless, program-killing geometry puzzles!
New trailer has me totally geeked. I love that the world has some much more style and polish, really in line with how much more powerful computers are since 1982. I got more of a Matrix Revolutions vibe than I did anything I'd call gritty. Things seem way better illuminated and the like, and much more open than in the original.

Fantastic all around!! Can't wait!

The lower def, its not as apparent.

Just assumed that it was a normal download stupidly
Everywhere i look has those stupid things...

Looks amaaaaazing
That said, I think Daft Punk will do a fine job on the soundtrack.
I love Tron. I have one of these in my garage:
I will try to get it fixed up and have another Tron-a-thon (2.0?) when the movie comes out.

I cannot get the download links on that site to work - anyone else have that problem?
edit: Gonna go re-install TRON2.0 now.
the guy in white doing the guitar move I also thought was Bowie! Would have been great if it was him...
Im trying to keep my hopes up. Just well after how Dineyed Alice turned out to be versus the more bizarre previews...
Please. Please Disney. Don't make this a safe family feel good film.
