Just one little tip in max, i saw you were selecting some things manually by clicking on every poly for something that could be done in 2-3 clicks with the select by angle tool. (mosylu on the stock attatchment part) Dont know why but i dont see many people using that.
Thanks! I'm downloading the http version 'cause I'm too lazy to install bit torrent on this computer. I'm actually getting 281kb/s and downloading all 6 at the same time so it's not bad at all.
Nice can't wait to watch it, I am getting 500kbps+ on 2 downloads and took about 10mins for 1gb I say that's good! on the HTML links.! Everyone should just learn from this and make something else. So we don't have 200 pimpin posts with look at my new AK-47 .
Very nice! I'll be making a weapon as soon as I'm done with what I'm currently working on .
I don't quite get the benefits of your preparation for the baking process, though. I always explode my mesh with incremental movement, which easily allows me to align the high- and lowpoly with a rough gesture (I use high increments - one will usually be enough of an offset). Since I have no objects near each other, there's no need for a cage. I bake a map with a ray distance of zero and one with a distance long enough to catch the furthest part and combine them in Photoshop (which, using masks, takes a minute). Not only did you spend 20 minutes setting up the cage, but moving verts of it manually changes the tangent, even if nigh unnoticably. To me, it seems like a cage, as opposed to exploded version with two bakes, takes longer, is more prone to error, causes more mis-hits and looks more cluttered... so what exactly are the benefits of it?
Only reason why i was hostile dude is because you signed up and posted a question about speed with no other comments. Not even a compliment for what racer has done for the community with this.
Not the best way to make a good impression around here, as we arent getting paid to answer your questions... Though i would be happy if you decided to stick around and post some work.

Muzz, no worries, I did complimented Racer a few hrs in PM before posting here. I can understand where you are coming from, should have been more clear in my post.
Anyway racer just PM me his reply which more than answered my questions. Thanks man.
Thanks again everyone for the large amount of replies and downloads of this tutorial! It seems like it has generally been received well and helped some folks out. Oh and thanks everyone seeding the torrent!
If you really like the tutorial, please consider pressing the paypal donate link on my site http://racer445.com. Any money helps.
Just wanna post and try to encourage people to donate here, i know a lot of you guys have/will get a lot of use out of this tutorial. Its one of the most indepth on the subject available, and it was done completely for free.
Hey, is it me or is the tutorial video extremely fast? I can't follow along when he starts modelling high poly part 1.
btw racer, that gun you made was simply amazing. I would love to see more of your work.
He sped it up during some parts because the video files would've been much much larger if he recorded and uploaded everything as it was real time. Gnomon usually does this, and adds voiceover comments and stuff like Racer did.
Plus, some of the stuff is pretty tedious and no artist wants to talk about every little thing he's doing for the amount of hours Racer probably took on this.
Really video tutorials aren't supposed to be step-by-step instructional, but good reference on to how other people use a certain workflow (luckily Racer slowed down and explained some of his methods for creating certain things, which was awesome of him...something that Gnomon doesn't do very often these days).
Sorry for reviving such an old thread but I'd really like to get my hands on this tutorial and, although I'm actually downloading the torrent, there's next to no seeders and it's going at 0.2kb/s this morning with an ETA of over 1 year. @_@
Anyone know where I can get the full tutorial for download?
Thanks for the reply DEElekgolo, but as stated above, only a small portion of his tutorial was posted! I'm within 10% of completing the download now! If anyone can go on so I can download it from them I would be greatful!
At the moment, with the very few decent seeds, it's gonna take 6 hours! @_@

If you cant find the time to do that then you cant find the time to make the bloody thing.
I am only trying to find out the time taken so as to gauge my own speed. Time is money where I work.

Great looking stuff though, can't wait to poke around. Thanks!

Anyone know where I can get the full tutorial for download?
Thanks in advance guys.
Seriously, what is this "good" you speak of?
He only uploaded parts 1,2,3 and 7 on vimeo. It's kinda helpful...
I can't wait to see all of his new re-done tuts.
