Nice! You da man! Thanks for taking the time to make this for us noobs Ive got a full day of waiting for After Effects to render tomorrow, so this will be a great way to pass the time.
awsome you finally released it man. Extra cool that you covered uurverything rather than just a specific part. Gotta go steal some of my friends bandwidth now
Cool its here! Sneaky putting this in tech talk, since you originally posted in pimp&Preview.
Downloading is slow for now, maybe you shouldn't let too many people know about it untill I download it.
I'm in the process of uploading for a mirror. I'll post the url once they're up. Would anyone be interested in a torrent for these? Might not be a bad idea.
so nice of you.*_^
Downloading is slow here,it going take 5 hours to download each file....
Torrent idea is not bad too...
Edit
You upload HD video on vimeo and mirror files will save lot of bandwidth..
If you want to create a torrent file and start seeding, I can go ahead and start seeding as well. I'll leave it going for awhile, and you can shut off whenever you want.
I'd start it, but I've still got a little bit of time before the last rar file finishes. If not, I can upload one in a little while.
very nice
racer could I make a suggestion?
the multiple downloads at 500mb each are quite large, what about labelling each one up as a component? for example, I am mostly interested in the sub D modelling, game mesh and texturing, not so much the UV layouts etc. Not to say I won't watch them, but it'd be great to prioritise.
needless, thats nitpicking, and I can't wait to watch this and learn!
cheers man
Glad I was one of the first people to find this post last night. Downloaded them all in less than an hour!
Didn't have a chance you watch even a second of it last night though, so thats probably how I'll spend my entire day today. I'll post my comments when I've gone through it all/if I notice something off.
Yeah, this wasn't packaged in too friendly a manner for most people. I was lucky and was able to download them quickly. However, if you're on a slow connection/getting slow downloads due to high traffic, this might be a little painful. You must download all parts, and then extract with winrar in order to watch any 1 part of the video.
you don't actually need all parts per se, you just need enough for the specific vid you're up to... if that makes sense >_>
so like, i just got rar 1 and 2 and watched all the intro vids and the 2 high poly vids that were split across the rar's, working on the third d/l now. So you can kindof watch while you download later parts =D
...OMNOMNOM!!! (vid be cool so far, i can haz learning :poly142:)
Chaosv, ImSlightlyBored, NoisyMonk- I used winrar part files instead of doing all the files individually because I thought it would give people a smaller download with less files, though it does sacrifice the ability to pick and choose parts.
I just made one at http://www.artofyoung.com/misc/ak-tutorial.torrent if anyone wants to start leeching. My computer went to sleep(still new to vista) last night and I didn't get a chance to finish uploading the rar files.
I'm used to private sites/trackers, so let me know if the torrent doesn't work for some reason.
Racer445: I quickly watched some of the first few videos. Looking pretty good, and pretty funny at times with the stuff you were saying, so I was entertained.
I have a little crit for you though. Try to use connect in vertex mode if you can instead of cut. Connect will always join the two vertex together perfectly, while cut will mess stuff up some times like add extra verts, or two verts on top of each other. I'm sure you have run into this. Anyways, I have all my buttons assigned to shortcuts so its just a matter of selecting the two verts and button press. Just thought this might help.
I definitely work with edges too close together as you mentioned in the video.
How do you work with them further apart and still get nice smoothing? Add more loops? Just curious, because you made a good point there, I just didn't get how to actually work that way.
The tutorial is awesome! I never touched sub-d modelling before and I'm loving it! Still I didn't make it further than second video, but thanks so much
nice tutorial and thank you for your time.
awesome part the description of your normal map process where you point out some really good info on how to bake a really good one.
I have all the rar files and wanted to use them to seed for the torrent, tried to get that to work, but it didnt. Does anyone know how?
(I tried, saving the torrent run it and have it allocate the files. Then delete those and copy the complete rars to that location) Bit of a torrent noob here .. sorry
Hey Racer445, thanks a lot for this. I'm just about through the low poly video but I'm enjoying this more than the majority of Digital Tutor and Gnomon videos so props to you.

What torrent client are you using?
In utorrent(and probably others), you would open/add the torrent and point it to save in whatever folder the rar files are already sitting in. If everything is in the same structure(in this case the 6 rar files are in a folder), it should automatically figure things out and start seeding. If not, you might need to uncheck "start" torrent when opening it so it doesn't start automatically, and then right click on the torrent and choose "force re-check.
i think we had the same prob. i got all the files and they work......however, vid 3 and 4 don't work. i think you originally posted that....and how you posted "nevermind prob solved" or something.

I have been *so* looking forward to this
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this and for making it available!

I can only upload 1 HD video to vimeo per week with a free account. My webhost gives me unlimited bandwidth anyway.
I'd start it, but I've still got a little bit of time before the last rar file finishes. If not, I can upload one in a little while.
Downloading now :d
thnx!

I'll throw a torrent up today.

other than that, it's always entertaining to watch people create stuff, so good work there.

Did you try downloading from the original link posted?

Thanks for putting this tutorial together and getting it out to the community Racer445
I look forward to seeing your workflow. Hopefully the download won't take too long...
