I've been working on a version of Sloth from the movie Goonies. Currently at 8,024 tris and is still very WIP. I'm sculpting and texturing at the same time and will probably redo parts of the base mesh. C&C very welcome...Let me know what you think.
fuuk me, awesome looking so far Bottom ends of pants bother me though, looks too solid - if they were tucked into his socks they'd fold in and bulge differently, and if not, maybe emphasize the thinness of the material, or have them torn and frayed out?
You've got a pair unrealisticly thick suspenders going on there. ATM they're only wasting tris and giving a weird silhouette to the guy.
I also think that the suspenders look like they are just sitting there draped over him. There's no real tension to them at all. These feel like they would fall off his should right now. This is happening because of how they are deforming over his chest as well as the lack of definition on his trapezius transitioning to his deltoid which is throwing off his silhouette. See the image below on the suspenders and how there feels like there is tension which also adds to the mass definition of his shoulders.
His thumb right now feels like it is in an position that is not as relaxed as the rest of his hand. His thumb would really only be that way if he was bending it in on his hand. What size maps are you using and could you show a UV layout?
Keep it up! Looking forward to seeing more of this guy!
I'm still texturing some areas but thought it was far along enough to toss him in the Marmoset engine. I just started working with it and I really dig it.
Only thing I could possibly complain about is that the left eye seems a bit too low, and the cheek bone doesn't seem as pronounced as it was on the actor (as shown in the picture firebert posted)
Sounds like I need to rework the face a bit on Sloth. The Problem I had with it was that there is only a few images on the web that are decent to use as reference of him. Thanks for the comments guys.
Just about done with this one... Added a few props to round it out and just tweaking a few things from here. Rendered in Marmoset. Hope you like let me know what you think.
not sure, you earlier had the face down closer then now... it doesn't remind me much of Sloth at all other then the clothes, looks great but lost the character in the face.
Hey I agree Dekard, I think its the eyes thats are throwing me off, im not sure. I was not trying to make it exactly like the sloth from the movie but I think the untextured version looked more like him. Here's a WIP of the face sculpt.
yeah your close, i didn't realize you weren't trying to make the movie Sloth.. but I think it's the chin..and cheeks mostly, plus he had one big tooth there, and two on the bottom
**I like this one the best because it's a sort of caricaturization of Sloth...
Here's some shot of the actor getting the make up on.
I think this is a good piece and with a little more pushing on the likeness can be a great one.
yes dude- really nice. one of the best characters of all time. i remember being really freaked out by him in that movie, then when you find out hes a chiller all that went away.
I say if you put a little more time into the tooth and making the eyes feel a bit more human you`ed have something classy on your hands.

Tanka, I was thinking about hooking him up with a Baby Ruth bar maybe later down the line.
Ha ha, great movie, and sick start on the character man, can't wait to see more.
HEY YOU GUUUYYYSSS
He needs his little puff of hair
and maybe his bandana and pirate hat
also his left eye is slanting down and in
looking at pictures of Sloth it slants up
makes him look more friendly
looks great man
one of my childhood faves
The texturing looks good so far, but the bumpmaps on the denim wear might be a bad idea.
