portfolio new presentation Tim Graybill

I've taken advantage a lot of the comments that were left my last post about my portfolio and I am working on re presenting my portfolio. it is all the same work, its just larger and it shows a little more of the technical side of the work. any comments on the work or the way it is presented will be appreciated.

I remember the very same models in some reel from either you or another guy with a different website. Do you know about that? - perhaps you did together with him that environment or project.

First off I would lose the character and creature from the blog and site. These are definitely your weakest pieces and cannot stand up to people who excel in character modeling. The models feel really un inspired in my opinion. They do not feel modern for me, almost like pieces you learned on and many years old.
I have seen the stuff on your site for maybe a year or two now. Why not revamp it completely and create some new stuff? Do you want to be a character modeler or environment artist? The buildings are your best work so I would focus on more environment pieces like that.

Take your environment stuff into Zbrush or Mudbox and take them to the next level. Not trying to be harsh but I think you should start creating new and fresh stuff. If this stuff has not been working for you getting a job then drop them and start new.

yeah I posted a thread like a week or 2 ago. all the work I'm showing on my website is entirely mine, with the exception of the architecture renderings, which were a team effort. I worked on most of the modeling in them.

So...almost a year has passed by since you graduated from AI, and you have NOTHING new to show at all other then the stuff from your demo reel? I remember seeing this at the show mate. What new art work do you have? Quite leaning on old work and get some new stuff out.

Sometimes, it's more trouble than it's worth to go back and improve your past student work. In my opinion, you should work on brand new portfolio pieces from the ground up because I'm sure you've learned so much more since graduating from college. Keep workin' at it =)

yea im going to agree with the other here and say what I tell everyone whos just graduated from school. that art got you started, ok good, now throw it all away and start with your current skill set as a stepping stone.

right now all the content looks like exactly what it is, someone who was learning and going to school. thats cool, everyone goes through that phase, so now knowing what you do start on a super dope portfolio focused on a defined role, characters, fx, or environments etc. personally I think your environments are your strong suit so maybe start on that area. when i read the bio and saw you say you are both a character and environment modeler it was a big warning sign. there are very few artists out there who are stellar at both.

the flash on the site was annyoing and I almost didnt know how to get back to the main gallery and nearly closed the site out of frustration before i saw the little button. I said it back a few weeks but ditch the character and creatures, the designs are super dated looking. if concepting isnt your thing, then find and established concept and work from that, dont try to do it all. that was my biggest learning hurdle a few years back, I wanted to do everything and thats just not possible most of the time, especially when you are just starting out and havent mastered anything.

the main things I would focus on for getting a job ASAP are creating and baking from some highpoly models, work on creating coheisive environments from established concepts and work on refining your personal workflow so it is super quick and efficient.
