If that one doesn't win I don't know if I can handle the one that would.
I checked out the rest of the shots. Unbelievable amount of effort and work put into that character. There should be no reason for him to lose with that much stuff added to the character and with all those energy drinks at his station.
I "clearly" was going to win, but was discouraged due to the fact that I only got one comment [you rock conte], and fell into a deep depression that made me unable to finish...
(please don't take me seriously guys)
on topic: There are about 12 entries I saw that are 1st-3rd place quality... no idea who's the best...
i think the judges have it easy this year picking first place, unless there is something i havnt seen i cannot imagine anyone beating molotov. However the other places will be very tough to call.
I dunno, molotov's texturing is very grey.
The modelling is excellent and the design is pretty decent, but I reckon he could have pushed the textures a lot more. I think there are more interesting, fresh and eye-catching designs out there (Boofis, for one!).
I gotta say Boofis FTW! Jeremy's design, execution, texturing and presentation are all damn ace! I'm also rooting for Fletcher man because that mech is off the chain. As for molotov's entry, it is so incredibly sick and is a shoe in for top 5. I'm also a big Jeff Miller fan. His Revenger entry is damn hawt with a killer high poy bake!
Yup, its the perfect post. I wish -everyone- posted that much information when doing their work. Not just within DW or UC, but outside of it, generally speaking.
I have to agree, the modeling/normals are great but the textures look too plain, and there is no contrast to it.
Indeed, what would really make it shine (heheh) is some more full specular metal bits, instead of only hand-painted highlights on corners and edges. Of course, the argument there is that a shiny suit isn't very stealthy, nonetheless I think it would look sexier, especially in marmoset. For the style he's done, it works. Always knew slipgatecentral was great at painted textures, had no idea he did this much highpoly work - that post totally blows me away.
Not looked at enough entries to get opinionated yet. Excited to see the judging.
I'm hoping JFletcher takes it, he actually made me interested in a mech creature. Tons of detail, technically amazing and really pulled together with a neat texturing / rendering style. If not him, Boofis sure is cool
Anyone else catch this kick ass entry? I'd love to see this get recognized on pure artistic merit alone. This reminds me how good traditional hand painted art could look when executed properly.
Didnt see that one...but definitly liking the painterly look. That little pikachu thing is pretty freakin funny...dunno why? Too many coronas...need to get off computer.

Dude is just on another level.
He also has Youtube videos showing the fleabot extending out its wings, the rollerblades coming out of the feet, and the helmet opening and closing.

Boofis also is a great choice!
Who I think should (from what I've seen so far) is katzeimsack, though there are a lot of great entries out there.
Who will win?
Either something generic and robotic or something generic and demonic. But we'll see eh!
Slipgate really made a striking point by making an awesome model without depending on a sculpting program.
Anyone else notice that some early favorites completely fucked up on the texturing?

I vote Slip's for first, and the owl for second. Kickass entries this year.
my favourite beauty shot is ced66's claim
I can just see this scene in a cutscene/movie; it just has that 'feel'.

;-P
this is just... unhealthy.. :poly142:
oh and i don´t think it´s very animation-friendly what he´d came up with (regarding the armor design).. but anyway..
it´s wow
These are some hungry artists. Amazing work!
Wish I'd paid attention to the contest this year.
rasmus for my vote
I think everyone would be better off for it.
Also worth noting that it seems to have been done entirely in Maya!
*fingers crossed*

I really liked what Brian did with his entry:

As well as Sadoshi:

There's a few more entries off of GA that are strong contenders as well but these two stood out to me the most.
I think Sadoshi's was pretty sweet too and a contender.

Yeah, another really great entry. There were alot this year. I feel for the judges. I love Sadoshi's entry, too.
