Hi there,
I'm a 3D generalist working in Sweden. Working mainly direct with clients but sometimes jumping and helping out at studios. Great to be part of this Forum.
My name is Daryl, Art is my passion and I literally do nothing but art. I feel ready to participate in the forum! I hope to get the chance to make friends and LEARN A WHOLE BUNCH!
Greetings,
As required, I am here to say hello. I'm very new to 3D modelling and am working in Blender. I've done a few tutorials (mug, wine glasses, clock, cloth, basic animation etc) and have now started working on my robot; INSEXIS. She is to look robotic but also with the characteristics of an insect, specifically a mantid.
I'm nothing if not ambitiousshe will be the main antagonist/protagonist (depending on choice) of a simple FPS/RPG survival game I'm looking to create (with the Blender engine).
Here's a first draft and current WIP, with about 2 weeks in between (if they upload with my photo storage set to private). Again, I'm extremely new at this so please be gentle.
I am a NOOB to the 3D world. I am starting a 3 year program in Game Design and development next year, so i am in prep mode, I am currently taking 2 online courses, one in Blender, one in unity and learning some java... but right now my main focus is in Zbrush..
Hope to get to know some of you as the months pass.. I am 43 and starting a new career in game Development... I am super, super excited
My name is Sebasitan Barkley, I am a student at RCC for Video Game Design and Animation, looking forward to feedback on my work once I get Portfolio pieces posted.
As points 1 and 2 already mentioned, you should search for answers to your questions before posting a new thread. You should also consider performing a search before posting a new thread if you think there is a good chance someone should have already made such a post - for example there may be a new art package, plugin, game or film just released that you want to announce.
Use meaningful, specific subject headers
When posting a new thread, consider the subject header carefully. The subject is your opportunity to attract people to your thread, so it's in your own best interests to use it properly.
Stupid: HELP ME!!
Smart: Help required with getting model into UT
Smarter: UT model exporting issues - model is wrong size.
Give insightful feedback
Polycount thrives on constructive criticism. It's one of the defining attributes of our members. If you like someones artwork then take the time to explain why rather than cluttering a thread with random words like "Nice" or "Cool".
Similarly, if you don't like the artwork then be polite enough to offer advice on how it could be improved. And with that said...
Respect Your Fellow Artists
Some simple guidelines for showing respect to other artists of Polycount.
Be courteous, polite and show respect to others. Use of the forums is a privilege, not a right.
Engage your brain before your mouth. You are responsible for your own words and any harm they may cause.
Don't post irrelevant nonsense in any of the non-General Discussion forums
If you are posting controversial content which may offend some people, there is always a chance one of our moderators will remove it. If its removed, that is final and it will not return.
Critiques and responses to images are to be constructive and related to improving the quality of the artwork. Our members love to see others improve and succeed. Always keep this in mind when posting.
The Polycount Forum is not necessarily Safe For Work
Expect to see nudity and swearing. We're adults here. Well, most of us are. And as such the conversations tend to be PG-13 or greater. This is not a free pass to use derogatory words or be disrespectful to any one individual or group of people.
The Polycount Forum hates spam
We don't want to buy your WOW gold, mobile phones or shoes. We already know where the porn is on the internet, so we don't need links to that either.
Post any of this and you will be banned.
Actually, you're best off not advertising anything on this site that isn't helpful to creating or learning about videogame art.
The Polycount Forum does not condone software piracy
Polycount does not condone piracy nor do we allow links to pirated games or software. We understand the piracy discussion, however Polycount will not be used as a platform for speaking out in favor of piracy, thus threads centering around piracy may be removed/deleted. If you are linking directly to the source for illegal copies of software you will be permanently banned without further warnings.
The Polycount Forum is not your "blog".
What we mean by this, is please don't create mindless threads that is off-topic to the Polycount Community.
If you have a topic of reasonable discussion to post, then by all means, please post away and let the intelligent discussion begin. However, we do not want to see random posts of "I ate cookies today" or "My car is blue", etc. etc. Even within the General Discussions forum, there is no place on Polycount for such threads. They provide no topic for discussion and are generally useless and become filled with useless replies.
"More art, less words" is a good mantra to go by when considering yourself a contributing member of the Polycount community.
If you find something you find just outrageously hilarious on the web, by all means, post it in the 'Thread of Awesomeness'. Other than that, pass it around in instant messengers and emails and keep it off of the boards.
We generally hand out Warning Infractions for such threads, so please think about what it is you'd like to post, and how it will benefit a community of videogame artists.
Long running Polycount Forum threads
We have several long running threads that are worth checking out.
What Are You Working On?(Pimping & Previews) Is a continuous art dump with people dropping in images of their current projects - this is used when the art may not warrant a thread for itself. It's our number one thread for inspiration, check it out.
The Thread of Awesomeness(General Discussion) is a general discussion thread used to collect funny/awesome/stupid links, videos or pictures. Try and contain your urges of showing everyone the top videos on Digg in their own thread, and post them there instead.
Low-poly Game Art (under 500 triangles!) (Contests & Challenges). This is a sub-thread to Contests & Challenges where we run small, fun, challenges for low poly game art. Definitely check it out if you're looking to kill a few hours on some fun poly pushing.
Job Postings in the Polycount Forum
You're more than welcome to post available jobs at your studio, freelance gigs or if you're looking for help on a project. We have specific forums for these types of positions:
If its a paid position for your studio, we'd love it if you could post it in the Paid Positions forum.
If you're offering Freelance/remote work please use the Freelance Jobs forum.
If you're managing a project that needs help and is unpaid please post it in our Requests forum.
