A friend and I have been pondering the idea of making a music video for the song "The Dust Storm" by Those Poor Bastards [ame]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhq55-zWXQA[/ame]
I've been putting a character together the last couple of days to try out some ideas and a different technique.
I first drew the textures, put them on planes and then started to cut the planes and shape them roughly to match the form. It has obviously left a lot of holes and rough edges everywhere but I kind of like that and I feel it fits the very rough style of the music. I've done some simple rigging, pretty much everything is just rigid bound to the skeleton. The mouth shapes are just different planes with textures on, really simple stuff.
I have a turnaround on Vimeo:

I just realised that I can't link directly to the source file on Vimeo, so if you want the video in better quality, just click the download link in the bottom right corner.

Cool song, too.
GoodJob!

The character definitely fits well with the voice of the lead singer in the song.
Would you be willing to post the wireframe and/or your texture maps?
Thanks!

It really crosses the 2d 3d gap. It's impossible to tell if it is actually just drawings or a 3d character.
I'd like to see wire frames just to see exaclty what you've got going there.
WA WA WE WA said borat!
damn! very nice!
VERY refreshing indeed!
Now make a few more, or at least one more, if not just as proof of style.
Here's a picture of the wireframe. It's quite chaotic so it'll probably be hard to tell what's goint on.

Here's a couple of textures for the character. They're originally all 2k (overkill, I know) and I've made the background brighter so you can see what's going on in the alpha.
Lastly, I've started another character, an undertaker. We're not quite sure what part he'll play in the movie but he was just too fun not to do. I'll post updates when I have them.
The way you paint your textures reminds me of something, can't tell what though. (?)
Moving concept art ftw!
to my eyes it is in between Bisley and Jamie Hewlett
Holi, thanks for directing me at Bisley, his stuff is very cool and I can definately use some of his in these characters.
A minor update for the undertaker; he's going to have quite birdlike proportions to make him feel like a vulture. By the way, the blue around his eyes are coming off a little too saturated on this monitor (as opposed to the monitor I war working on), how does it look to you?
best things i've seen in a while
Ok, I'll definately tweak them when I get back to it. It looks like makeup on this monitor and I'm guessing it's better calibrated than the one.
Thanks, Sectauers. That's warming.

We'll definately be needing environments if we get the movie on the way, but as of now my main responsibility is the characters so the other guy will probably be more involved in the environments. Not to worry though, he's freakin' good.

yup, there's definately a twist of Waits in the Poor Bastards. Along with some Nick Cave, Marilyn Manson and whatnot. I'm really into their music at the moment, so raw and gritty...

there's a turnaround of the first character on Vimeo (see first post) and I'll upload one of the undertaker as well.
wanna do creepy comic guys too
