Hello, this is my first post on Polycount!
Done for Advanced Animation Drawing class (why it's called that, I have no idea- it's really a Concept Art Class), topic based on current Dominance War rules. Please note that I am not officially participating in Dominance War at all.
The assignment is to create a character from each class (Demon, Norm, and machine). Character line up to see how these were gonna look next to each other.
C&C welcome.
Edit: Uh, I guess I'm not allowed to upload images yet and all you see is a red "X."
Fail!

...yay it works! Thankyou Zilk!
fast1 - thanks for stopping by!
Here are some shots of what I was able to finish by midterm, weighing in at 2006 Tris with 1024 Diffuse/Normal/Spec. These are 3 (slightly) different diffuse maps. Critique I got from class was that the face doesn't read very well (design-wise). I suppose I have to balance out readability with alien'ish/non-human designs and reel it in a bit. I figured out some problems after the fact; the weird shadowing at the top of the xyphoid process is due to the spec map (need to fix),
I'm having problems with normal seamage. I split the unwrap down the middle and overlayed the left and right sides (symmetrically) so that I could get more texture space, but my normals area all fcuked at the seams (I chose to do it this way because I've seen other people do it and I need to learn how to do it as well). None of my peers knew how to fix this, and the instructor I want to ask I don't have this quarter.
Any advice as well as C&C is welcome!
Respectfully,
Glenn

Then rebake your normal map and off you go. Nice name, Im also Glenn :P
I had a sneaking suspicion that that would be the answer (didn't know to re-bake though).
Only thing is... will that work in Zbrush (I bake normals there). I remember once I tried to bake in ZBrush and it wouldn't do it because a miniscule part of the unwrap was outside of the 0-1 space.
I'll give it a go later today after work to find out!
Much appreciated,
Glenn-Brando
Concept 1 for senior project.
Need to work on that armor and face.
Fleshing out a creature thumb.
Quick Zsculpt to keep from getting rusty, color test, and to test myself as well as the concept. Started with a sphere, referenced elephant and rhino images.
I need to do some more animal studies before I do the actual model I think. Dunno about the scaly/bumpiness either (happy accident when I forgot to turn off ZAdd halfway during the painting process).
Zbrush and Photoshop for post-processing color test. 2hr~
Here's some animal studies.
Concepting phase, still need to flesh out and detail.
Did some design ideas and mix and matched what I liked from them. I took the legs from 10, the mask from 7, and the upper body arms face and hair from 4.
I don't know what 8 is, but she looks like an eskimo or something heh.
Big Guy
While doing these I was thinking "LARGE."
I didn't get to do as many of these yet, did it before bed last night, but I'm kinda liking the last two on the right (obviously, since they seem to be the more complete).
The far right I'm still wondering about the size of it, and whether I'm going to make it a suit, or a full sized transformable mech. I'll have to do more concepting to see which I like more, but I thought I'd share what I've got going on so far!
I debated posting this because, well, I'm not happy with it. I need to make him "fit together" better and work out his proportions. It's been a rough two weeks with finals and this is one of a few products of a frantic all-nighter last night (why am I not in bed yet?).
I'm intending to model him, so I plan on doing some more plan drawings to make the modeling part easier, and go toward a more realistic route. Fingers crossed!
On the upside; two more classes then hello 3 week break! Woo!
I did some environment thumbnail studies AFTER that (yes, I know, backwards but I realized I needed to do some environment studies after I had done the first set).
She's a demon hunter!
Color test of a character I was making for Advanced Animation Drawing. Might be modeling this one too. Needs more bling and texture work.
She's the chick in the center of post #3 in this sketchbook.
The thumbnail sketches are my favourite, especially the street scenes.
Really great stuff!
Here's a clean up of the Maika concept I did one day at a coffee shop.
Kukri made in class a couple quarters ago. About 3 hours from research and conception to final rendering.
3DS Max
Yesterday I was able to participate in Concept Art club's 30 minute challenge yesterday, topic: Sith Lord!
It was a good change of pace from all the FreeRealms concepts I've been inundated with lately.
Frank Miller style!
Massive over-use of the soft brush and bloom!
Good stuff!
A head I did one day over the break.
Found these in my external hard drive, from last quarter;
A Demon thing
Values on puppy
Been a long while since I've uploaded anything, I've been working non-stop on a lot of concepts, and they're all in varying levels of completion, and school has been pretty hectic these past nine months. It's been a long road, but graduation is coming in about 4 weeks!
Done over 2 days.
Thanks for the critique Ged!
the main rider dude looks mat finished like theres no hints of specular on him as if hes covered in course plastic, get some small hinted details on him maybe
the animals back legs are crisp and clear near the rider and yet thier feet seem blurred out like some dof effect and the background is also crisp and clear so maybe those feet/legs need to be crisp and clear too?
the animals sharklike face seems blurred in some parts and seeing as this is quite a focal point its a bit of a shame clearer speculars and details here would be nice.
The characters arm holding the saddle is hard to read is it small or far away...where is his elbow and the creases around it? Id like to have seen that arm brought out away from the body more for a more expressive pose but it may be too late to say that
hope that helps
Future suit. I'll go into details some other time.
