[Portfolio] - benzi - crits welcome

Hello.

I'm new here, so I thought I'd introduce my work by linking to my portfolio. I recently switched my focus from character art to environment art, which I feel is a better fit for me. I'm having a lot of fun creating the content.

My goal is to land a position in the game industry as an environment artist. The majority of my work was created with Maya and Photoshop. Here's the link:

Crits are very much welcome, especially in the WIP/Recent section.

Thanks very much.

    Your friendly polycounter here giving some advice, first of all I would drop the WiP/recent pics as none of them appear presentable enough, and focus more on the pirates section(for now). There are some nice characters there with a decent texturing so rather show that and the traditional section, as the enviroment section is still in progress. Carbonmade isnt that good (I admit, been using it myslef...but not for long now!) at showing big pictures of your work either so everrything gets scaled down. So a object/character per image would be far better. Thats about it mate, keep up the good work!

    your 'back to the project listing' button should be way more apparent...i was looking all over the page and couldn't find it for some time...almost thought you didn't have one

    @c0ldhands:

    Thanks for taking a look. Would you have any tips on making the projects in the WIP/Recent section more presentable?

    I personally don't think that 7 pages to click through for one grenade and box is really that necessary. but like c0ldhands said, carbonmade doesn't give you large enough image space so maybe scale it down by a couple pages.
    for the site itself - the title says textures & environment on every page. Yet there is only one environment hidden behind 7 pages of a grenade. Also there are no texture flats. your character work is a lot better, i would probably showcase that for now. Because you can't really sell yourself as an environment artist and have all character stuff.

    another note on the website, many of the pictures link to:

    why don't you use your site instead of carbonmade? if your not that good with html there are plenty of premade layouts that can help you out.

    I'm using carbonmade because it was so much easier to update, and I thought the format looked nice. I really don't know much about web stuff, but maybe it's worth considering to find a pre-made template that's easy to use.

    Im with *breakneck* on the enviroment matter, its hard to sell yourself with the enviroment work that you have right now. But the characters you have does add to the detail that you have done some professional work. I would definetly wait with the enviroment part before I would seek work, you know, we are living in hard times with the economic crisis and all, so competition is tough. About presenting enviroment assets? Try the new Marmoset Engine everyone is talking about(you can find it in the Technical talk), its an easy way to achive a fast game engine like rendering. Its either that or UT3 Engine or the good old redering in Maya,3D max( or whatever package u are using). Good luck there mate!
