jerry, good eye. I got to the concepting stage of Dominance War 3 and then gave up due to lack of time.
Here are my thumbnails from last year, I did take one as a starting point because I still like the idea, but the majority of it is painted from scratch now.
Really liking this character so far, awesome silhouette. I think they head so far makes him feel likes he is just a soldier and not a major player though. A sinister helmet or mask would help with that or something like a distorted face.
Cool! But i think that the longer scyte would be good idea, en those hands between legs- they look interesting but i dont think that they would help him with swinging this scyte:)

conceptitis flu season always strikes during Dominance time. I am wondering if concepting in ZB or mud may reduce concept down time.

I keep thinking, 'how would he use those lower arms?' he could'nt really swing the weapon while the lower ones are holding it, without reducing the range a lot. I think the arms are cool though, so trying to think how they would be of use. what about strapping grenade pouches to his legs and he tosses them at enemies while in the middle of a fight

he's got the crab thing going for him ( large forearms, shell back armour )
If u put a garbage disposal shredder thingey in it's pelvis... the small arm could be like a crabs feeder fins ( the fins that push debris into its mouth )
How did I miss this? Go Mop ! My suggestion are to make his left arm feel more "useful" , not sure if that's the right word, but he doesn't look like he could grip the weapon with it. Also, maybe push the latticework holding up the giant shell/shield further, it's a nice direction.

Update. Not sure if this is a better version or not. I think I like the idea better than I like the painting... maybe I should just start modelling and apply concept changes as I go.

Been toying around with the idea of giving his crotch-arms some nunchucks to fiddle with too... we shall see...
Ah, i was digging the scythe, i think polearms and hafted weapons fit his build a lot more -- with the natural armor on his shoulder and the huge upper arms he's practically the perfect spearman.
Can't wait to see you develop this concept a bit more, looks pretty awesome even in this rough stage.
Hey MoP, cool design man. I just think that he's a bit unbalanced atm. You have all the big/heavy stuff on one side. Beside the fact that the guy could easly fall on his left side (considering the weight) I think it would make the silhouette more interesting to have some "counter heavy elements" on his right side. I think that the feet could be a bit more stronger as well, to support all his stuff.
that's a cool design moP, definitely agree with suprore that a spear or some sort of spiny halberd would really suit this character, maybe even more armour going down his shield arm like a gladiator or something? I think If you pose him right, shoulder down, weapon maybe angled down through a little nook in the shield the imbalance wouldn't stand out so much. counterweight idea is cool too though
Awesome I can almost see how it moves around, using the big hand to support its ungainly weight. It also reminds me of the aliens from the Final Fantasy movie for some reason.
I like it. I would suggest maybe beefing up the legs and feet a bit. And I would agree it is a little off balance. Maybe give him like a walking stick type weapon or something he could use to help maintain balance.
Still haven't decided what to do about his weapon, but I figured I'm more comfortable concepting in 3d.
Had a quick pass over a ZSphere base mesh and got this... for some reason he seems to have acquired a scarf... Orko? I kinda want to give him some more cloth now, maybe make him a bit ceremonial? Demon priest?
To me honestly the concept doesn't feel cohesive. I would much rather see this guy more hunched over with bent knees, so the stance is creepier. And make the shell conceal more of his body to add mystique.
Nothing says priest except the staff. You could make shell look lived in like he is a soldier and its his home while he fight's on the outer limits of space. Stuff hanging off it. Like he is more of a hardened mercenary. He could carry a spear and do blanka spins with his sharp shell, I think that would be cool lol. You could sculpt some crazy ass shapes with the shell.
Don't take it the wrong way, I'm trying to be constructive

Maybe you could make the Crotch-Hands juggle something ( no, not *that* )
