NekoPaint. For symmetrical concepting.
(if this is posted in the wrong place, I apologize, please move it to its appropriate location).
I like programs that get out of my way, and help me get my ideas down quickly. I've recently learned Zbrush after a 3-4 year hiatus from all art, and it has re-invigorated my desire to pursue cg/3d art.
Now, since we're in Dominance war, I've been looking for a way to get concepts down in a way that is quick, and transfers my strokes well. Mirroring in photoshop is just a hindrance to me.
Alchemy is cool, and has some neat things, but has never really felt quite right to me. I prefer a more brush/ pen feel.
So I did some searching, and came across NekoPiant. It's free, and a few seconds after trying it, I new that this was the ticket for me.
So, to all of you out there who haven't heard about this program(I'm sure some of you already use it), and would like to try something new, or if you've never gotten the hang of alchemy, try it.
It's Japanese, but has a mostly converted English version here:

I'm not sure if you need anything special to run it, It ran fine on my system, so if you run into any problems, do a search since I don't know anything about how to get it going. I do have Japanese language files installed, if that info helps. XP sp3.
Unpack it and run it. It does not require any install.
Here's the first quick tests out of it from me. I can't tell you how good it feels to use this program. The strokes are soo nice. These are about half size.
Here's what you need to check to enable symmetry.

I might like this a little more then Alchemy's leaf monsters.
Ive got this running under Wine, but unfortunately only the gradient and select tools work properly.
*edit* (I guess I can't updated the title of the thread, just the title of the first post) Oh well.
Any feedback? Did anyone find it handy? I've been using it for a bit now, so I might be able to answer some questions if you have any. No promises.
Ged: Yes, undo is shift+z Redo is shift+ctrl+z.
Most keys are the same as Photoshop.
In case nobody caught it the first time - This saves out layered PSD files! With transperancy!
Here's some stuff I've done more recently. These were sketched/colored in Nekopaint, and then brought into PS7 to add a texture to the background an tweak a few things and that's about it.
Symmetry is a little bit of a crutch, and definitely shouldn't be used all the time, but I like the speed with which I am able to flesh out a concept.
I started writing a similar app quite a while back. It was inspired by tacitmath's SymSkribble (from the old Sketchbook thread). tacitmath then went on to work on Alchemy, which was cooler than anything I did, so I scrapped mine.
Entirely lacking features and incredibly buggy, here is the first and only version if anyone is seriously bored and wants to waste their time.

Good tip rooster! Sometimes we forget the painting aspects of our sculpting programs. Not quite the same thing, but for a quick rough, it would definitely do. Though I haven't really tried it much myself, so. . . Guess I should.
