5 is very General Grievous style. While I dig it alot, I think it would be nice if you broke away from his mold and mixed the style with 3 or 6 perhaps. Might mix nice
Getting more precise in the shape~
I'm trying to give it a sort of adaptive shape according to the situation this machine would face, by being able to deploy parts when it needs. (fully deployed there)
sorry Garagarape for the 7, he was too much powerfull to fit with a scout design, it would have been perfect for a warmachine
Nice, it's got a very mantis-like feel to it with the addition of some mammal like hind legs. It might not be a bad idea to try to explore some narrower shapes to really give it a quick and light feeling to emphasize the "scoutness".
Slowly reshaping all the part, I still have a lot of piece to do. When I'll be happy of my 'detail blocking', I will clean all that mess of polygon u.u;
ps : it seems that polycount forum is having some hard time, it was kinda hard to post without getting an error O.o;
It's coming together. I like the arms and don't think you need to make them much bigger. I really hope you don't go down the line of making it too "transformerey" (like the new movies). I'm not sure about other people but i dislike the way they do their robots. They have bits of scrap everywhere with no purpose other than looking busy and complicated. So far your's is looking good.
In any case, looking foward to the mantis section. Hope you have a good idea of what you want to do for the head!
Well the upper body was a test to see how a mantis body would fit, but it seems to me that the general form is losing some dynamism, so I think I'll mix it with a more '5' upper body version anyway
Wow! Great job here. It reminds me some Zoids designs.
Is it wings that you added on your last picture? Or Mantids arms?
If it is wings you may not loose dynamism by choosing them shape
not spread and going down the body rear part... May be.
Gambatte!
Sloooowly progressing, I've redo the lower head in a more clean way, adjusting the design a lil bit, and redo a blocking for the upper part >.<.
So here is a render to see how the shape was going with the shadow (and because it's more friendly o.O; )
damn this is awesome! although be weary of the silhouette on this guy. I`m not an expert, but I`m willing to bet baking this to a low is going to rough.
Update on the body. I'm trying to step away a lil bit from the industrial look by adding some curves and ornaments (with smooth wireframe view for 408 ) ~
sweet, hope you can retop something with so many little parts within the budget tho good luck for sure if you can pull this off i cant wait to see the wires!
well I've to close a lot of little gap to make it 'bakeable' , and maybe have to adjust some part if i go out of poly count. But surely it will be hell u.u
Good question, seems that most people seeing it (including you xD), visualize it pretty big, but basically i wanted to do it , let say a lil bigger than a quad (I hope it still fit in the scout size, else I will need to gear it up and do a war machine). I don't know what people think about it.
I think it's partially the thickness of some of the areas that make it feel bigger than what you were thinking. The legs especially feel quite thin if you imagine it quad-sized (but that's not necessarily a bad thing).
Either way could work though in my opinion, scale can be suggested through your textures anyways.
Thanks everyone for the comments.
Small update as I didn't work that much this weeks u.u
Mainly I've try to do a tubular/muscle articulation and I've reduce the size of the rear legs and made them a lil more pile hammer/horse like to have a more 'jumpy' feeling.
I'm not dead \X.x/. Well it's been a long time I didn't update my threaD, mainly cause I was doing a lot of bake test to see how I could fit in the polygon budget . Anyway as now my robot is spread in a lot of different part, to be able to work on them (thanks to my comp keeping on crashing) here is some regrouped part (not much to see) ~
What take ages ? render time or doing your pieces right to have a good bake ?
Furthermore this is coming out rellay nicely (damn you finished your Hi Res, i'm latteuuhhh)
After a long fight~ 9998 triangles.
Screen from a preview with the marmoset toolbag; I've got some normals to fix but it should do it. Time to switch to texturing mode u.u; (I think i'm gonna scale down a bit the blades)

i like 5, lol
So here is what I've end up with mixing part i liked.
...a wolf/spider/bee/mantis... quite overcharged look, guess I'll remove some part to make it feel more dynamic...

Happy to see that you are still alive
Thanks Gara, i saw you went really fast on your dog, nice job \O.o/

It woks very well.
Keep it up.
