Awesome thumbs dude! 3,13, and 25 are my favs. 25 has a very plump shape which is not very common in this competition so it makes it pretty interesting. Looking forward to some updates.
thanks guys! I'm going to concept up 16 of them to a little bit more detail, done most of em got 4 more to do. I need to pick 5 or so from this new bunch (I'll add 4 more tomorrow)
You will be the first participant in my community service program. Tanks for commenting my thread.
I like 2 because of its weirdness.
I like 5 because he looks mad, maybe join the top of 5 with the bottom of 7.
And 11 is cool, just has a cutenessfactor or something.
Another vote for 8. That dome head has a lot of potential for some really nice visual effects, plus it lends a nice ambiguity to it. I'd chunk up the bottom part though, maybe add a big round butt to it like on thumb 2?
9 and 11 are standing out for me. I like the reptilian hulk body little head of 9. I like the idea that 11 is floating around rather than flying, like some gas filled blimp, the thing hanging could be some kind of anchor/mace weapon. Cool presentation BTW
jerry: cheers! good to see people getting into the community spirit
indian boy: aye, didnt get round to 27 last night, he's in this batch tho! I like im, just for the tank like aspect
ninjas: thanks m8, yep 4 is worth another play with, not quite happy with all the proportions on that un
thanks kamui!
cheers meshiah
konstruct 7 and 8 are turning out to be popular, I think the'yll definately be through to the next 'round'
jackablade: cheers!
kendo: I like him, he reminds me of something I can't place though, I hope I havent subconsciously pinched some design lol
nrek, helixx, blazier, peterk: cheers! 8 is definately one I enjoyed drawing more
casey: lol thanks m8 preciate it!
cold: cheers! your sketches are looking awesome
dfacto: aye, might be worth having a play with some variations before settling.. good call!
rick, stinger88, ravenslayer, gavku: thanks for the input!
hot damn threads sink like a lead baloon with all this activity! takes some digging each day to find it
ok I forgot to number these.. these are
13 14
15 16
going to do a few of these. I started with one of my favourites, that no-one voted for, hehe
I guess I'm thinking of a few extra factors, such as what type of modelling and materials I want to do. but I'll be doing all the favourites before moving on. so: no.9:
That's one of my choices. Looks great on the turnaround. That concepting technique works really well. Gives a great sense of mass and poise.
Quick question. The alpha of the mesh is coming through in the turnaround, especially on the poly's at the arm. Is that intentional? I expect if each poly is fully transparent the black lines of the model might become confused.
EDIT: Just realised the style of this concept reminds me a little bit of psy-crow from earthworm jim. No bad thing at all.
ah Ricky (stinger88 ) so it was it got one vote
there isnt actually any alpha on the planes, they are all just semi transparent materials- I can't get 3d paint working with painting alpha, not painting in realtime anyway. So you're just seeing polys with colour the same as the background, semi transparent.
I actually like the effect though because it kind of gives a bit of depth, fades out faraway lines.
thanks everyone!
I've pretty much narrowed it down to these 3: I might be doing one for 6, but I prefer this lot so we'll see..
If you can afford the bandwidth, please check out the turnaround and let me know what you think, it gives a much better impression than just the image. they're about 5 meg, cinepak codek:
you are a monster of awesomeness, rich
all three of these are fantastic starting points, so much that i couldn't decide which i liked better. you pretty much can't lose whichever one you go with

I am liking #8 from the 2nd sheet you posted.
the only problem with it is that there wouldn't be any balance and he would end up like a turtle on his back
anywho great stuff
good stuff roo
