1 or 6....
and I think you're asymmetry will be worth whatever res crunch it causes in the texture, it definitely gives it more style and a better silhouette.
Looking great so far man, nice start on the modeling. I personally like head numba 3, 1 would be a close second. Adding a stripe down the middle of the forehead and white dots in the eye holes might work well to mimic the design you got going with the human guy's head, just a random idea.
SWEET thanks for the input fellers. sounds like I might have to do something with 1, but all in all I dont really like any of those after getting some distance on the matter so boomers head is still very WIP.
modeling update-
I`m calling him boomer joe- earlier Aimbiz said 10 reminded him too much of a kangaroo, and I decided to run with it. I guess male kangaroos are called boomers, and baby kangaroos are called joeys- thus the name "boomer joe"- a tag team name like "master blaster" (as thats probably the main source of inspiration on this)
Although I do think the boots could have a little more shape to them, right now they feel pretty cylindrical. I guess it all depends on the look you are going for, though.
looking great so far, nice solid stuff, cant wait to see more
also the robot head (pretty much every variation) reminds me of that robot dog from Wallace and gromit, heh
im gonna be different and say 3, to me it just seems like the head of a more obedient robot, which i think suits him, how he carries around a guy. 1 would be my second choice.
heyo !
I guess I should go on record and state that none of this entry is a mech. just a big ass dude wearing large chunky armor. I can see why there is that misconception though, hopefully when I get to the sculpting part I can get some nice organic forms in there.
- also I know the missile racks are limiting arm movement, but I suppose boomer doesn't use his arms much anyway as hes more of just a giant bi-ped seige vehicle.
I still have to figure out what joe will be equipped with. I figure he should probably make use of the rocket packs at arms length :P.
I still have to figure out what I`m going to do for the magical thingamabobber. I was thinking about strapping some sort of kids toy to him somwhere and coming up with some BS as to why its magical. but that idea is a little dry
update for tonight:
AimBiz: Im thinking there some sort of missile container- maybe there magical in the fact they have infinite supply:P
ForeverEnding: Gagh you right- from certain angles there totalally a straight line.
JFletcher: I just went and googled that robot dog as I forgot the robot dog from the series, and your totally right- gave me an idea or two though believe it or not- thanks!
Kendo: thanks man, added to the ref folder for this project.
maybe the little guy can have a magical gun or something ... the chair is looking particularly awesome! I could see a pair of racing seat belts on there for sure ... to keep the little guy from falling out.
also a thought -- maybe some sort of big stabey weapon for the big guy? can see it working with and without it.
Looking very cool man. As for the limited arm movement, I wouldn't worry too much about it...maybe it's just me but I find I really start to get hung up on if something will "work" when, really, I think you're being judged more on visual impact rather than functionality. Or at least I don't recall talking about models "working" when I judged last year :P
I too am trying to figure out exactly what is magical on my guy...I'll probably just make up some bs story, haha. The kids toy could be cool!
Wish I saw this thread when it first started. Absolutely great thumbnails on Page 1... Model is coming along nicely too - please consider using the Skull from 3.c, it lends an interesting slant on the whole design.
easily one of my favorites, such a good idea! yes the missile pods obstruct the arms, but can you put enough emphasis on the fact that he has missles strapped to his baby pouch? absolutely not!
o and please magical baby on board sign on his back?
Boomer HP finished-ish. going to try and have joe done by the weekend. (probably not gonna happen). the deeper I get into this, I realize I probably wont be able to hit the 10,000 tri mark but I`m gonna give it a go anyways. I figure I can just do a propper LP, then optimize it to hit the 10,k mark. if it looks like crap than at least I still have the propper mesh for a clean end product.
i think the studded leather seat is by far my favorite part, its strangely eclectic, and yet set into this giant death baby backpack. super cool, also good eye on the final head i think horns would have really brought him down.

Also, Mezz, it's a guy in a suit, not a machine
can opener on the top with his head half opened
4 and 5 are my favorite ones. Your drawings are really cool, they remind me of something from Metal Gear Solid for some reason.

Boomer Joe sounds cool. Are the stacked cylinders where the dude sits grenades?
looks pretty damned solid -- cant wait to see the rest.

I'd like to have a ride on it.

awesome detailing, man!
The whole silhouette reminds me of
some heavy medieval armour, but
it is all made of modern pieces.
I like it very much.

nice work dude -- came out great!
