nice bake man, and the little guy is looking tight! im interested to see how you are gonna render this out for your shots, could be some seriously hilarious stuff going on.
Thanks guys.
Ya for my final shot I've been envisioning the golem holding the invoker in his hand. The invoker in turn is holding his "artifact"(a small toy looking version of the golem) and yelling at him to move his ass and pointing into the distance. The thought of it just makes me chuckle so we'll see how it turns out.
Great rock sculpting. I attempted something similar last year and fell flat on my arse. Rocks quite a tough subject to get right IMO. Like the invoker dude as well. Reminds me alot of Brian Frouds work.
Thanks guys.
I did a bit more texture work and added some more greens. Trying out some poses with my golem. I'm personally leaning towards the 3rd one.
I like the first pose on the left. The form gets lost in the 3rd pose IMO. The left arm is getting lost in the body. If you could make it pop more from the body it could work.
I thought you'd be putting the little dude in the Cave/cavity in the golems chest. Might be a bit small though. Maybe he could sit on the ledge there. It would also give a possible meaning to the connection between the two of them. The Invoker being the Heart of the golem.
Other than that I'd have him on the head or shoulders.
hey man while i like the idea of him scolding the golem, might be something to save for the beauty shot, i think that either in his nook or on the shoulder would be most fitting, that way the golem can use both of his arms to bash! i cant wait for updates on the little guy to see where u have gone with him!
Thanks for all the input guys. I'm still pondering the final pose.
Been busy working on the low poly of the invoker. Here he is baked with 3 different skin tone ideas. Rest of the stuff is still wip so far as colors too. I'm kinda terrible at doing color schemes so if anyone wants to do a paintover it would be greatly appreciated.
The bright green one might be a good choice as it'll make him show up better on your big stone guy. He might get a bit lost with the less saturated tones.
i like the green one as well, maybe a little less saturation, but nice, maybe a redish color would work as well since the golem has vegetation on him that he could blend into. nice update its been a while im glad this didnt get dropped.
Well I spent some time playing with mental ray for the first time and got some decent results. The grain on the skin of the invoker is due to low amount of rays for the render but I didn't want to spend all day playing with mock-up renders. I'm going to try and keep the two characters within the same color palette.
So far:
- The metal I still think should be shinier and I still need to add all the effects but progress is progress.
- The golem looks a little washed out, however I haven't changed the diffuse since the last time I posted it so I'm guessing it's just my lighting.
- Still have to add the smoking eye effects on the golem and I've been thinking of adding the same veiny glow to some of the rocks on the golem like the arms on the invoker.
- Both models will be getting some poses soon.
Presentation is and has always been my weak point so for this project I've decided to cram and get the modelling/texturing done sooner so I can spend a few weeks getting the presentation down. Therefor any advice, tips, links to tutorials, words of wisdom and paintovers are all welcome and appreciated.
Here's were I'm at with my models. Next I'm going to rig them so that I can more easily pose them and then i'll start putting together my final composition. Let me know what you think.
I really like your definition of stone on the Golem while keeping the figure shape.
And the dude with the belly is great! I like the glowing hands and his expression. Wonder what he's saying
hahaha love the poses with the hands on the hips, any of those is great id say the second one is my favorite. he reminds me of Wallace Shawn's character Vizzini from the Princess Bride. id imagine him voice acting this fella ingame.
Having some trouble with setting up my scene. I made a rocky platform thing and I'm willing to make some more props to make the scene more interesting but I'm kind of at a loss with how to set it up so that it's interesting yet still shows off the models. Here's something i rendered out quickly to do paintovers on. But feel free to just draw me some stick figure sketches to set up the scene if want. Really appreciate it.
cool dude. Lighting needs some work. You should try making some vegetation for your scene. I think it would ground everything a bit. Otherwise it's a lot of rock.
Well I'll be glad when I submit this stuff once and for all. Happy to say that I'm finishing. Unless anyone has any last minute tidbits of advice that can easily be changed these are probably going to be my final submissions. Still working on the text page write-up thing but I'm not too worried about that.
Thanks for all your support and good luck to everyone who entered.
Wow, no one has commented on this yet, surprising. The textures on the rock guy came out great. The white specular highlights from worn rock and the mossy patches sell the material quite successfully. Rock texture on the pedestal looks a little inconsistent with character, and shoulders on the rock guy are a little too dinky for me, but hey, it does give him some real fun personality. Solid work, man, stubbs and rocky are cool.

Suggestions for poses welcome.
