Very nice looking. Maybe you could push his stomach even to even larger part of the style. Or... just came up in my mind (and I want it out) maybe his stomach was a bubbling cauldron? He would sort of have stomach bra (made from steel) that would hold his open stomach from spilling the bubbling ... soup... out.. disturbing.
As Zwebbie said. Nicely mixed generic warlord style to actual evoker. Cheers
haha, deto- the couldron stomache is awesome. i might have to pitch that to a buddy who is doing a demon
both- i agree on the shoulderpads and the legs. this is more of a quick thumb to get out the overall feel of him. there will be LOTS of revisions to come. but yeah, that will help for the next round of doodles
I demand more painterly approach. stop this thumbnail bullshit! bust out the numba2 pincel, that old fashion thing called a "sketchbook" and get down with it! =P ps. i wanna see coffee stains on the paper as well....cuz i know thats the only place u draw!
ok, this idea was floating around in my head on the train coming home last night. these little centaur lookin dudes that hunt in packs... raptor style. so one takes a demon or robot head on keeping the focus...or agro for all you nerds out there. meanwhile the other 2 come from the sides hitting high and low. each of them will have weapons and armor to show visually thier role in the scenario. bait guy will be brighter colored to draw attention and have more armor since he will be fucked if the other 2 fall asleep or something. the one that hits high will be more bladed weapons and faster looking, while the low will be heavier and more blunt object to crush legs
thoughts...ideas...crude uses of the word gay all accepted.
ok, here is a little doodling from this morning. i think ill give these little guys a general raptor shape so when you 3 in the scene you kind of already know what they are about to do to you.
HI DAN!! no, i havnt traded in my pencil yet. i just dont have a scanner. between what i post there are usually 10 or so variations on that in digital, and a couple pencil sketches.
ok, here is my raptor guy around 12 doodles later. with these i started a couple versions before my last post, then just kept tweaking and evolving it. each time i try out a different idea on the same or last iteration of the creature. and it evolved from that...into this one
crits...comments... BRING IT. NO, SERIOUSLY, i want some ideas tossed around here.
JAH LOVE
Does it have eyes? I kindof like that maybe it doesn't. Digging the shape so far... I kindof want to see more throat on this guy. With a giant HEAD MOUTH like that, he'd need some pretty massive gutteral throat action to swallow things whole (just kinda assuming thats why his entire head is a mouth)
Bonier back maybe? Extending down the tail?
This thing runs at high speed? Maybe a thicker tail at the end to help itself throw it's balance around.
Where are its sensory organs? how does it navigate?
umm, it has the google android for navigation. yeah, acurate gps down to 5 feet. the only other organ it needs i cant show because they want to keep it pg 13 :P hehe
no, im just going with the shape right now. the rendering is just noodling as i figure out what im going to do on the next iteration. next stage is going through each main part and figuring out all those happy little things you brought up.
here is a little glimpse of the process
dude with the cloak i might make fatter, but not the raptor thingy. he is meant for agility and jumpin on mutha fuckas. dont you 2 have class in the morning!!
hmmmmmmmm...nobody digs the first one eh? just princess and i. i agree with you adam, the second on the bottom is one of my favs here. im going to run a little bit with the first one tonight and see where that road takes me. also do up some more random ones just to keep feeling around. but i like this hammerhead idea, i just need to find a good eye position for it
played with the idea in my head a little more last night while sleeping. gonna drop it down to 2 of these little dudes, dont really want to deal with trying to cram 3 dudes in here. going to make them stalkers that use shadow magic to teleport around. so its like fighting 2 little nightcrawlers. this doesnt matter too much to you... the audience, but this way you can see my thought process a little better on the next batch of posts
thanks zcorpion, im digging the direction so far but not sure what im gonna do for armor and such. i might go with an aztech warrior them...we will see
I don't know if this is the direction you're going for, but your last set of 4 sketches with the exposed gums reminded me of the Goblin Shark, easily one of the most hideous and terrifying creatures down in the deep blue. Might be good for some reference:
notebookguy- was that your thread, or is it just a random comment on it? anyway, the alchemy sketches in question that i had commented on weren't nons, the person was trying to just draw in it. i totally agree using it to make abstract shapes is cool, but the person wasnt doing that. they were trying to make outlines and linework
wake- those things are wicked arent they. im not sure if im going to go that "wicked" with it. although that skin would be lots of fun
Hey buddy this stuff is comin along nicely, but i feel your lacking a point to your piece. Last we spoke, you had ideas of quick little units that jumped in and outa portals to attack in packs. If your still onto that idea than im afraid this character doesnt really sell the idea. Thats not to say this character is bad by anymeans, just saying. In the classic sense of quick, stealthy, semi vulnerable....this guy isnt it. He feels more robust attack unit. Like he would be raging and screaming through the woods attacking people like a gorrila or a boar (which btw would be pretty gnarly).
So that being said. I grabed ur recent painting and went to PS with it. I simply masked it out and started to push it around with liquify. I was just changing the major shapes and perportions to see what other vibes I could get off slightly tweaking 1 piece. I also stitched on a few of the heads you previously drew to tie in some of your earlier work.
I did this in hopes you would take the idea and it tons more of it yourself to explore more ideas in a quick and painless way. Rather than painting a whole piece to find out its not exactly what you were after, and starting anew. Hopefully this will keep you from noodling too much on stuff that simply isnt important just yet like anatomy.
Another thing to roll around in your head while your doodling is..... The outfit, and accessories tell equaly as much about the character as the figure itself. Try not to just focus on the figure and play dress up later. You will probly find yourself just beating an idea into submission to make it work but it wont be as great as you really wanted it to be. each step of the way can be broken down into shapes and pushed around quickly to try different things before rendering out lighting, shading ect ect ect.
Your doin great man! cant wait to kick tons of ideas around next weekend in dallas with ya.
Heres my ghetto photochop =D
btw....did that dude just rip on me and I not even say anything??
keen, whats happenin
stimy- i like the feel of the middle one a lot, im starting to lean back toward more upright though. i think the big back like that would play well into the shell like surface on parts i was talking about.
ooo, i love the first one. I love that hunched over look..and i lofve his front paws. He looks like a fast hunter type.
and the details on his back could be for a good opportunity for some badass detail.
i like to keep this shit like the weather channel...constant updates
ok, here is a new shot, ran with the guy on the right of the last post for a bit. im liking the tribal and the frilly thing a lot. i just need to kick up the gnar

i love the idea man. Are they demons are norms still?
Just a question did you discard your trusty old sketch pad for a wacom tablet?
JK loving what you have so far can't wait to see more!

GO TO BED ADAM!!
i like fat things.
The thing kind of reminds me of the way people use to think how the T-rex use to stand.
