Body close-up and wires. I had the urge to say "56k warning" but then I kinda laughed a little. Still got quite a few tris to spare as I know I still need a few more loops in bendy areas. The upper arm shape still needs some lovin' and things will be smoothed a bit more once attached (i.e. tail, arms, horns).
Debating a change in the silhouette and making him shorter to better show him off down the line. Played a bit with just a front view screengrab in Photoshop...
EDIT: Quick block-in
Might have to move his horns to make him maneuverable though...
Great stuff so far. A few more thorns on the back of the hands couldn't hurt. The fun thing about being so close to a poly limit is that you can make minor tweaks and if it doesn't work you can go back without having wasted a lot of time.
Matt -- I thought the same thing. Now just 4 tris short... think it's nearly go time.
r4p -- Thanks! I'm dying to start ZBrush on this bad boy. Forks will be stuck!
Hey everyone, I apologize for the lack of updates. Things are getting hairier IRL and I needed to focus on some other projects. Got back in the saddle this weekend and am coming along on my ZB sculpt. I'll probably have another update sometime tomorrow after fleshing things out a bit more.
Looking great! I can visualize the strong green glow creating a lot of rim type lighting on his bendy forms. I think that will really sell this guy once he gets to that point. I've gotta say though, my favorite part is the little set of hind legs, like little piggy legs, hanging down, such a cool little touch....
gara -- Thanks! I will.
BC3D -- Yeah, I think getting it to that point will be a real turn for this piece. I'm also partial to the piggy legs... and BTW your site rocks, I solved your riddle.
r4ptur3 -- Thanks again! May the Polycount army crush the opposition!
Determined to finish! Great entries from everyone so far. Might peek around a bit later.
Here's my progress on textures. I'm pretty happy with the color and spec scheme, just need to add a bit of detail and finish the hands and horns up. I'm also conflicted in my approach to some cool "effects" I want to use -- namely some ghostly stuff floating about him. There's a few directions I could go... just depends on how determined I'm feeling. Pedestal is in progress.
I really like the colours and the glow effect you got going there, compliments the character nicely. It looks like your high poly baked down pretty well too. What did you have in mind for the pedestal?
man, i love this piece -- but where are the colors???
it was so cool as a wooden-druid-elk-beast thing, how u call those, like a wood elemental, when you made the golden render. this version has no color!
Hey all -- completely agreed on colors. My main goal is to add more variation where I can. Also planning more gradient/ghost effects for the emissives. I'll post something solid by tomorrow. Yay!
Another texture update. Took everyone's suggestions into mind. Need to clean up the top horn normals and show the back in the next update. Extension ftw? Chug chug chug!
ye better, i think no-grey background would help revive the color much more, plus u could push the colored areas further definitely. keep the "lines" grey and touch the lower areas in between with some saturation.
Just beginning to get an idea of how my final presentation might work. Blocked in ideas for the pedestal... realizing we have less than a week for completion. Should have time to crank it out.
Cranked out textures for the pedestal. Gonna start composing my finals, though I wouldn't mind a bit of cleanup and positioning for the final pose. As much as I'd like to run this into the deadline, I might have to impose an early-weekend finish due to finals!
Something close to the Presentation Shot. No post-effects.

Here is a silhouette and wire spin of the latest. Just under 9900 tris atm including the ghostly stuff, and debating minor stuff (thorns).

I like the shapes and bronze reflects.
Keep it up!

Shooting for a BIG update for Monday!

Gravethorn lives!
Thanks, guys! Final Countdown time!

i attempted this:
maybe i'd brighten the green in its center... i think this green is too flat~
Cool stuff, i like it!
i like the idea of the wood elemental! and i think it would improve your colo scheme.
Good luck everyone!

Here are my proposed finals for the comp. If I find myself with more time I might go in and noodle some more. Gonna wait until Monday to submit.
Thank you everyone for your input, comments, critique!
