My starting point. Thumbnailing is probably my favorite part of the whole process... It's when the sparks start flying. Here's the few that stood out to me.
Thanks kon and PeterK, though I'm not sure which direction to take yet. I'm really liking the last three posted, though the omnipresent "MORE AWESOMER" is knocking me over the head.
All the thumbs are looking really nice, but your little knight is looking really sweetly stylized. If we can see some of the other thumbs like that maybe I'd change my mind.
I'm going to do a refinement pass on the knight and develop the cyborg dryad a bit to see if I can pull her out. I'm picturing an offspring of SHODAN made of wood, skin, and wires.
Needed a break, so did a refining pass on the girl. Not trying to break my decision here, but I've noticed a serious shortage of female character attendance this round. I think both would be a blast. I will have time tomorrow for a solid concept pass at our boy knight-duder.
Small silhouette update to the knight design -- now he's a real character -- satyr knight! Gonna take a stab at using Alchemy to assist in designing his weapon.
Evening, all. Went out to see the sun today so I only got the weapon silhouette finished. I plan on employing similar motifs into the armor ornamentation.
So now i have to decide whether this bad boy will be one or two-handed. I imagined him with a shield before, but this may be enough to give him some leverage.
Leaning towards the second since it's very close to the silhouette.
Lookin good. I like the style of the knight you're going for. If you want to incorporate the girl, maybe she could be rather small like a faery or pixie that sits on his shoulder? Could be a nice touch. That way you can do both characters. I was going to do something similar but changed up my mind.
Also, I would've SO done a female character but I needed to do something new for once! My portfolio is looking much too one sided
Here's my WIP on establishing the armor forms for the knight. I'm still noodling with the armor ornamentation and how i might introduce more intricate detailing. I'm planning to do a face study, followed by the front ortho view.
Beautiful stylized work!
The only thing I want to say is--in fact--to BEG you to not lose the amazing simple yet lovely stylized linework-feel you have going on. I'm aware of how easy it is to lose that sort of thing as you move through the stages, but I think it will be a great benefit to you to keep focusing on making it as stylish as possible.
bounchfx -- Hey, thanks! I've been debating including the color, as I know the rules state that it's colors or logo or both. I'll play with it before the next update.
Mezz -- That is my primary focus with this project -- I'm going to try to take it in this direction as far as I can and then do my best to maintain the visual flavor for the 3D model. Thanks again.
Hmm... still interested in doing some hard surface stuff. Here's the stand-outs from another round of thumbs. I want to begin modeling this week so I'm gonna gung ho just a bit more to get the creative juices flowing.
Not sure if he fits into any of the machine classes, but this was still fun. I might noodle with him some more to streamline him a bit and incorporate more design into his not-so-finished parts.
There's more I want to do with him in terms of materials and it looks like it's going to happen in the ZBrush stage. His upper body is screaming TREE so I'll probably model the forms to better match that appearance.
I'm really diggin the direction the knight is going. It's already got a strong silhouette so it would be cool to see where you could take that one...Just my own personal opinion though. Keep it up
Yeah, I've been having a personal struggle against my typical works and am aiming for something different. I also like the knight concept, but I am determined to be happy with a concept completely before moving forward... A tall order for the time we have, but I learned last year that this is really half the battle to staying motivated.
I did a texture update on the latest concept (above) to give him a dead bark/tree feel and to darken him up and make him more menacing.
Basemesh time! Managed to block out the body/arms and a fair bit on the head yesterday. Moving forward, I'm going to better distinguish horns from vines and branches. I wanted to get an idea of the model flow before attaching any of the flails.
i think the concept is a good start but needs more 'fucntional' explaination
like lets say uve got ghostly faces shooting out of his tummy-green-thing attacking you,
or the arms green is like a repository that is shot through his finger tips
smt like that
konstruct -- Cool, thanks!
shotgun -- Yeah, my big problem last year was things being a bit monochromatic. I'm hoping to make things pretty colorful this year for that reason. Good ideas.
I'm already deep in developing the backstory. I'll be posting more soon.

Gonna keep at it. Good luck everyone!
More to come.
I really like how you presented that stylized Knight creature. Are you going to develop your Knight creature more, or keep doodling ideas?
im still liking 3
Keep it up.
Epic knight needs epic weapon.
Sir, I positively demand you do this.
...Unless you don't want to.

Full awesome-ized concept this weekend! Yeah!

The weapon is infused with sunfire.
Remember to get some green in there! Team colors!
maybe the sunfire is SO HOT that it turns green?

Edit: Oh, and if everyone is dying to see more female characters, you could always check out my thread... http://boards.polycount.net/showthread.php?t=61671 *cough*shameless, shamelessplug*cough*

Leaning towards the leer and structure of 3.
Yesssssss
Still like the earlier ones a lot, but modeling's gotta start soon, so just go with whatever feels right for the project
UPDATE: Re-texture
I did a texture update on the latest concept (above) to give him a dead bark/tree feel and to darken him up and make him more menacing.
Let's do this.
Speaking of tree demons... Nice lookin' stuff over there, bilbana!
More to come.
