some scribbles, was playing the robots except for the first one. Though on second thought im not feeling the robots so much. Going to play around with norms and demons instead
On 9 I kinda liked the idea that its almost a lifeless body that the gods do there work through. She kind of just floats and heals/ rises fallen comrades.
i feeling somewhere interested in 10 and 11, which is the same from the first sheet. I thought it could do the claricon or invoker route. On 11 I was thinking the source of his power comes from a demon lords eye that he wears on his chest.
Thanks for the input guys! I like the idea behind 14 but don't necessarily like that doodle of it. Will definitely see if I can pull anything out of it.
I've been having a blast with alchemy, though i found my self struggling a bit to get more organic silhouettes, but it works awesome for doing machinery stuff.
did a few I kind of liked a bit more detailed. Still rough. I'm kind of liking 18 but having a hard time figuring out if I should leave her mostly nude or giving her crazy armor and what have you. Eh will see where it goes :poly124:
I like the seraph alot. If you're thinking of armor... How about the four wings are actually a creature thats shielding her chest? Sort of parasite armor
I didn't get a chance to work on anything as a Austin film that I had worked on premiered tonight at SXSW, though I'm hoping to tear into these designs a bit more
So I'm pretty sure I'm either going to go the invoker route or the healer route. These are the two designs I'm probably going to elaborate on. Though they are by no means epic enough in there current state yet :poly124:
These are really just a general idea still. I think while keeping them in the realm of norm I'll experiment with them being different than just human, hell maybe I'll merge these two together and see what I can mash together!
Just a few more thumbs before bed exploring other ideas.
I'm kind of liking 21, I feel like with a bit more exploring it could be a pretty cool warlord class. He is kind of like a dude in a giant exo skeleton. His arms would be free and attached to some kind of controller and what ever he does with his arms the robotic ones would follow. Or maybe some kind of thing breaching into his spine so he can control them through thought. :poly124:
So even though I kind of still like the seraph idea I'm kinda thinking a warlord in a huge exo skeleton/armor suit would be really cool. i was kind of thinking it would be cool to make the proportions somewhat like a gorilla and he could charge into battle like a guerrilla would. Any who just a very quick doodle to keep things rolling.
Hoping to have some time to flesh out more ideas tonight.
On a side note, does any one have any good resources for robots or cool mech related stuff. Or any artists that really rock with mechanical bits?
Well, this company sells all kinds of awesome mech/mecha modelkits. Maybe you'll find some inspiration there.
Looking forward to more refinement of this one since right now it doesn't really work. If the limbs are going to be that huge it feels like the body he sits in needs to be bigger as well.
I def agree. the proportions are pretty wonky, but the idea got me excited so i'm looking forward to seeing what else can spawn from it now!
I'm thinking of favoring a guerrilla body style so in most movement he would be using all fours to support himself/run. He would use boosters and what have you to get leverage to throw massive punches etc. At least that's whats in my head :poly124:
kendo - That would def be pretty cool, I was still thinking of incorporating some kind of missile launcher on this suit, will see.
indian_boy - ya good call man, I think I will try to push it even farther
Diwan- agreed, I was thinking of doing two different arms and what not
I figured for now I just wanted to nail down the general over all shapes and then I would start to break things up, and add the smaller bits so this concept still has quite a way to go. Thanks for the feed back guys
Also do you guys think this would be acceptable as the warlord class? My goal is make it like a big armor/exoskeleton. I could take it the cyborg route but I figured the norms would need large machines to fight off war machines/demon lords :poly124:
Imo I think it's too simple right now, it needs more things suggesting how the joints actually works, specially on the knees. How can they hold up such a massive wheight?
And as indianboy said, push the proportions alot more. I would suggest going back a bit to thumbnail stage to make it easier to loosen up the forms. I wouldn't mind seeing the thighs alot beefier.
Decided to kinda ditch the futuristic look, and thought it would be cool to go for more of a orc war machine, barbarian type feel, any who here is sketch.
you should totally give this guy a gorilla stance when it is all said and done. I think it'd really add a lot of personality -- or maybe emphasize the broad shoulders and massive arms with some sort of a wrecking ball or something? Those big arms merit a big weapon :P Nice work so far!
I totally agree r4ptur! I think a gorilla stance would work great. I picture him charging at the enemy like a gorilla right before winding up for a massive punch..waboooom!
In terms of a weapon I'm not entirely sure yet, I thought it would be cool to give him some massive orc axes with chains that he could throw and pull back, but that might hurt my polycount a bit, will have to think of something!
I kind of got to a point where I was already feeling really bored with it. While I like the idea I much rather do something Zbrush involved I suppose. So I started playing with a warlord idea I had, where he uses slayed demons bones/horns/pieces as armor and power. Anyways just started a block out in Zbrush. Going to do some paint over and what have you.
The mech is cool, but I'd either thicken the upper arm pistons, or move them closer together. As for the warlord, interesting helmet - do the horns have periscopes inside them so he can see?
Yeah I totally agree, I think there are lot of areas that could thickened up on the mech to be honest.
Yes of course, He is actually a nuclear sub officer and thats how he peaks out of the water! haha =P..I was thinking it would be cool if he was blind, though I was kind of wrestling with ideas to convey that, gots to do me some doodles!
Thanks J!
I agree he definitly looks like Illidan, I think once I get some of the paint overs I'm doodling on it will change that. I don't actually want him to have horns but he wears them as part of his helmet, will see where it goes
I do really like that design as well, I like the one I was going with to but I just find myself having a huge amount of trouble thinking of interesting joints,shapes..etc and it ends up becoming a drag. It's definitely something as an artist I need to hop over but for DW I rather do something I enjoy a bit more!
Not really happy with the helmet so going to scribble up a few different ideas, I want it to be a demons skull but think the bad assness can be pushed!
I decided to go with the idea that the he is a warlord who has slayed this giant demon lord and is using it for the source of his power. The optical nerves are branching around him and consuming him slowly. I'm still adding trinkets and what you, but he has tusks and other bits as trophies from lesser demons.
I'm trying to decide on horns for the helm, I think I've narrowed it down to three main choices, any input would be great!
Was talking with a good friend of mine and was thinking it would be cool if the Eye was like Balor, where anything it killed anything it gazed upon or something like.

Some norm concepts

kind of leaning towards maybe pushing 12 and 13 a bit farther

Not sure if I'll keep two of the same arms or make them different but here is a update none the less!
And as indianboy said, push the proportions alot more. I would suggest going back a bit to thumbnail stage to make it easier to loosen up the forms. I wouldn't mind seeing the thighs alot beefier.
Good luck!
Reworked some of the shapes, pushing things a bit more, really rough but I'd say its slowly getting there

A lot of pieces are still basic geometry, I tend to hop back and forth instead of finishing one piece at a time I guess =P

if your gonna go with that idea might be best to increase the thickness of the horns at the end.
however i think 21 looks brilliant, shame you switched, perhaps it just needed a revision?
nice work so far though!
