Max seems to have had messed up my uvs which was a pain in the arse, but sorted it now. Here's the low with the maps baked out (in a realtime shader) TIme to start texturing I guess.
I think I'm going to work on a new entry. I realized w/ my current one that more of my poly budget is spent on whats inside of my prop than the actual prop itself, lol. I'll have something else up sometime soon
Tamarin: Cheers dude. There are two models there, so just halve the tri count, which sits at 432. If you look at the image I posted a few posts down, the normal map one, I have it selected and it shows the tri count
Edit: Looks like you've noticed it now and cheers mate.
Talbot: Almost, just the four (on the sides) the front thing is suppose to be a clip to keep the thing shut, and the joint is on the back.
Lol, yeah, wanted to get a heavy duty look to it.
Tech smith: Nice textures, that on a 512 map?
Yes, that's a 512x512. I thought the challenge ended yesterday so I just threw a quick chopped texture on.
I would be embarrased to show my painting attempts. I'm rather bad at texturing
started a new hi-res today with some of those other design ideas in mind. the high & low are done and it is baked down. gotta add the textured normal bits still. AO bake applied-- hoping to get down to some real textures after work today.

sweet chair mique!
o noes, another chest. looking good so far
mique- sweet chair but in what way is that a crate?
Its just a small prop challenge, any object smaller than 1x1 or 2x2 meters...it looks like a lot of people went with crates or crate-like items because the first two example ideas are crate/storage container, while the third is a portable generator...
serves me right for not being able to read. i came to it from thgat other crate based thread so of course i ass...umed the topic....my bad....nice chair
Hey, thats pretty cool. I would like to see just a VERY small amount of wear, and color variation. Nothing overkill tho, as the material looks really nice as it is.
Very nice chair for sure. I'll say I'll allow it for the comp. Why not? Like EQ said maybe making a few color variations and a worn one would really rock.
Man shep that rocks. But I still have NO idea how you got that much detail into a 512. Mine baked with a ton of jaggies and errors. and I didn't think mine was too complicated.
@Shep - man that rocks... can you perhaps elaborate a little? did you inflate that detail in zbrush i guess? man it looks really good... to Saidin's point a little; did you bake a larger normal then re-size downwards it in PS to make it 512?
my 512 normal map came out looking like I caged it down on the floor ,and threw a bunch of spastic chickens over top.... it has the general idea, but your work shows me im still shark-chumming... nice work man.
The idea of this prop is that its a crate, in other words its a stackable physics prop, containing a power-up, made from wood and metal, used in puzzles, and tends to blow-up (deffinition of crate methinks).
Its an elemental magic crate (this ones electrical you can tell by the blue colour), these crates either release an elemental powerup by breaking the vessel, or if stacked together and ignited by the right elemental magic can cause many different effects, huge magic happening, solutions to puzzles and chain reactions, but the wrong elemental crate can dampen or stop a chain reaction.
Really liking the chair and the elemental crate. Inspiring to see how much you can fit on a 512. I have abandoned the telephone cable warmer and gone for a straight up crate. The idea behind this one is its a box and you put stuff in it, although there is no opening yet. I'm still working on textures and with 24 triangles and some texture space left I'll try for some decals.

This is going to look pretty sweet!
I still have 300 polys left over on the low, so I guess I'll be making an inside :P
Shepeiro: Very nice. Awesome uvs as well. Looking forwards to the maps.
had to jump in on this one! needed to do a quick paint so i could figure out where i was remotely headed before i got too far.
saidin - looking excellent!
vadien - great shapes
unless i can get xp and all my apps installed and recover me old lappys memory.
Anyway, got some time now and should finish today. Here's what I have so far
Finished the high now. Need to build low and texture it now. By the way, do I post the final image, in here?
Lol, yeah, wanted to get a heavy duty look to it.

chung wong: that box looks really heavy, can't wait for some textures

Here's the texture wip.
Anyways, here's the final image

i'm joining the minicomp, going for a leather armchair
here's the progress so far,
a mudbox sculpt and the lowpoly mesh

thanks cody, shepeiro & boomz
boomz: nice chest, love the cartoony style
here's an update on the chair, still lot of texture work to do but you get the idea
Unless it's since been changed and not updated, so it encompasses any object that's 2m x 2m
Either way, chair looks great
Rotary phone cable cooling device?
ha ha Micro! that's pretty much what I thought too!
some minor tweaks left before I abandon/finish it
I went for this prop because I have a great reference cone sitting next to me.
Highpoly nearly done:

My vote! wow man can I see the flats! Looks really nice! grats
..... does it open?
You make me sick. . .
got a little more progress to show with the texturing tonight. diff/spec/normal are fairly well-off.
had a lot of fun painting wood, here's the diffuse:

show me more!
fearian: thanks dude
Jesse Moody, EarthQuake : thanks for the feedback, hope you'll like the update
think i'm done now, realtime render from maya and a construction image

bleh
I think I'm almost done with mine, pretty simple stuff diffuse only, just need some feedback.
Pre Edit Image HERE
Edit: Quick update, sorted out the wood lighting and tweaked the colour (thanks Tumorboy)
ETA: the cracks in the wood look like they're popping out because the lighting is on top of them. flip the UVs.
