errr and what's the purpose of this survey? do you work for M$? heheheh
I'm writing a script browser for Max, so you can launch this utility, and browse/install/uninstall scripts automatically from there with the click of a button. The problem I am running into is Vista doesn't like writing to C:\ at all and it isn't 'proper' to write to Program Files. However, most people in the Max community just install to Program Files anyway, and it is valid/preferred on XP systems. I think I've found a way to correctly install via Max/Python to Program Files and C:\ so it sort of makes this issue moot, but I wanted some idea of how many people were using Vista (was tempted to just make it XP compatible, but based on the survey too many people are using Vista to consider that). Thanks for all the responses so far.
It's to do with where you save your files... I *had* it turned off but turned it back on recently and oddly haven't had any issues with it; A: MS fixed it up in the service packs and B: I'm not saving data to the system disc (external).
scourge: Not really- each plugin is just one dl* file (dlx, dle, etc.). The plugin manager is more for telling max whether to load/unload plugins, which (conceptually and practically) is pretty simple. This is... much more involved, and different.
First it involves getting a database of available scripts, creating a user interface so the user can install/uninstall them, installing them by downloading, extracting, and other stuff, or uninstalling them- and scripts aren't just one file (like plugins), they can be extremely large directories that need to be loaded in a certain way. I think the frontend is 85% there (will need feedback). The protcol (database of scripts) hasn't been worked on and is outside of what I'm doing, that will come in the next couple weeks, need to speak to chris grant (scriptspot) and some others to develop a protocol. The backend (installation and uninstallation) is about 70% there- as I find other cases of how people distribute their scripts, I will need to do more work.
BTW if anyone is interested in helping me test or give feedback, please PM me with your MSN. Thanks for all the survey answers, I have a pretty good idea by now of what I cannot do.

Rob - will this be similar to the plugin manager in max?
