Damn that is so hott ZackF. Awsome peice. What did you render that in? Iam very curious, I want my models to look that good!
Also that is a the most stylish gas mask Ive seen in forever MassBot. I laughed. There pretty cute. I would have added a blue trim on the skull one. you know, the whole boys vrs girls colors. blue and pink. Kind of stereotypical.
JFletcher, you've got some perspective and proportional issues going there. The entire thing looks like it's leaning over because the right leg and right arm (our left) are too short compared to the ones on the other side. It also looks like the top section is off-center because of how the edge of the bottom section continues off to our right.
I did a little paintover GIF to show you some changes you might make so the perspective and stuff could work a little better. Hope you don't mind.
Here's what I changed:
- Rotated everything except his left arm a few degrees
- Moved his left arm out a little
- Widened the top section and adjusted the top edge so it'd follow a more elliptical curve
- Adjusted his right shoulder plates so they look like they're in perspective
- Moved the seam and adjusted the round part on his right arm so it looks like the right arm is being viewed from a different angle than the left
- Evened out his feet a bit so they look less distorted. The right leg is larger than it was originally.
- Squashed the belly circle so it looks like it's in perspective a little more
- Adjusted the ridge coming from his crotch so it goes along his center line
- Added a line to make it look like the driver's seat is in perspective
You may want to play around with the size/pose of his right arm a little. Right now it's about the same size as his left and it should probably be a bit smaller since it's falling away in perspective.
The overall design is really cool and I think you should keep pushing it, but it needs a few tweaks before it reads properly as being in proper perspective and right proportionally. Keep going!
hm I'm no fan of the fixes on fletchers image..
the "something" that makes it interesting is lost a bit.. maybe just even out the feets A BIT! .. but just a bit..
but that's just my opinion
technically it's not wrong what swizzle made
I think he had a sort of off-kilter look that was lost on being straightened out like that, and it ended up feeling more static. To keep the swagger but fix the perspective I think you need to just push the silhouette edges of the bottom torso to the left on both sides, keeping everything inside the silhouette where it already is. Right now the bottom torso seems to be drawn from a more angled perspective than everything else. Great design and painting by the way, JFletcher!
as far as i can tell this is a red dot optical visor.
this things project a red dot to the eye of the marksman, invisible for everyone but him.
its powered by sunlight or batteries
and at least for this kind of stuff there are no lasers involved. so the "caution, big lasers may burn out your eyes" sign is inccorrect.
even if this should be a real laserpointer, i dont think they will have big yellow signs on the outside visible. most likely they will melt the warning into the plastic or hide it anywhere you wont see it in combat.
(a bright yellow sign kinda breaks your camouflage and its most likely you dont want that to happen in a military operation kind of thing)
ok, thats one thing i just wanted to point out.
iam not really a weapon expert, but i was in the army and we had a rifle with the red dot optical visor (G36).
chances are iam making a fool of myself if this really is a laserpointer since, like i said, am not a real weapon expert. but at least to me it doesnt look like one
I really doubt there's any camouflage going on when you run around in a big and bulky orange HEV suit. !
But I agree, I really doubt the army manufacturers care to supply the weapons with manuals and warnings. Do you really need a sticker that says "WARNING: May cause injury or death." when you are in the army? :P Of course, I've never been to the army, so I don't know for sure. But to me it seems irrational.
Jesse, that's looking pretty cool. Although the dirty grunged version looks nice and reminds me of starwars, I would prefer a clean version. Mainly because it looks like it has some cartoony sense to it.
@rollin: i like the first one the most too, but is it goig to be very lowpoly or why is the silhouette that clean and formless? i think you could exegerate the silhouette a lot more.
hey neox.. the plan ist to build it relatively lowpoly and despite of that I want him not to look exaggerated. Nontheless.. the silhouette is very important and I'll try to optimise it when the props are added

Looking good Jesse, although I hate to say it, it looks almost too similar to the piece adam just finished ><

Sexy. For a mod, or for fun?
I actually agree with this. The original has something that my paintover doesn't, though I'll be damned if I know what it is.
Maybe if, instead of 'fixing' all the little issues, you push some of them even further so that the entire thing has some super distortion going on.
I dunno. I sorta kinda agree with rollin though. :poly128:
A great amount of awesomeness the last pages, really.
A sword.

LoM Chaos: Thx man
Swizzle, that lighting turned out great
Eric, nice texture, any chances of seeing the flats?

thanks for the info
like i said, iam not a weapon expert and only know what i have used.
the guy who put that sticker there has to get fired.
Still very WIP, obviously. I've got to push the TF2 style a lot before it's done.
And I just realized her right boob is all mushified in ways it shouldn't be. Must fix that.
And... damn. Girl got some legs on her.
So there are some proportional things I need to take care of. Whatever.
loving all the hand painted stuff recently. keep up the good work everyone.
suuuper early wip of a goblin. gona give him a creature mount too.....this is gona be a looong ass project..
did a wee enviro concept last night!
@razorb: nice concept
ok another update from yesterday night
300 tris and a horrible uv layout (i was gonna add accessories, but never got around to it)
Jesse: Nice textures so far on that bot... those screws make 'him' look kinda suprised xD
Razorb: Are you going to model that? looks neat, lighing is nice.
Neox: :poly115:
Rooster: Thanks man!
