iv been playing with the call of duty 4 modtools and am trying to make a small level. My goal is to end up with a nice size map me and friends could play in lan games. here's a few shots of it so far, I've just been blocking in mostly.
It's like hammer, yet not. (Hammer = Hl2 mapping tools) Anyways, I'd suggest picking a second color, and using it as "dev" , and use it to show details. It's hard to get details when you've got one drab color. Other then that, start play testing ASAP, make sure it's all balanced before you start adding models, in, etc.
can u share the theme of the map?
What area is this exactly? the location,time of day,supported game mode like sabotage,death match etc.
the over view of the map is pretty good now,but i will also recommend u to keep researching the existing cod 4 maps(i know u would have).
Maps like backlot,vacant,bog are one of the best and backlot is still my favorite.
What COD4 is .bsp?
To comment on your screenshots, it looks futuristic or like a temple?
I wouldn't go futuristic but if you go for a temple, that could work very well.(de_aztec anyone? )
Good that you blocked out the map, throw some props in there strategically for cover from some angles and test this already with some mates, than finetune/detail/light it.
From my understanding:
Hammer is a heavily modified version of an editor based off Radiant, used to make Quake1 levels.
The CoD series is built on a modified Quake 3 Engine, and so use a heavily improved version of Radiant.
Throw in a highly skilled team of artists and programs...and you wouldn't believe it.

thanks for the replies! i've only been using the editor a few days so i dont have any useful tips yet; and yeah I kind of wanted to go futuristic, but since you guys say it would look better as a temple I might start leaning in that direction instead. I was thinking of changing the time of day to early night time too and having a lot of lights around the place. and also yeah I think cod is BSP. I'll have a few more shots up soon.
yeah i'm deviating from the standard style cod4 maps, those are fun but eh; here's some ingame screens. I started color coding stuff with random textures, still a lot to add though.
changed some textures, still lots to fix, im going to change the skybox tool also, does anyone know how to switch game play from team deathmatch to regular deathmatch?
