Well, I've been pretty busy recently, but I really want to give this a shot.
I had an idea which is basically cribbing from Indiana Jones, The Mummy and various other early/mid-20th-century-setting movies. Frantically plagiarising as I go, here's the crack...
The time: 1929
The place: Cairo, Egypt
The event: The so-called "City of the Dead" has turned truly evil. Zombies are coming out of the ground, the graves and the mausoleums are spilling over. In the cramped alleys of Cairo, nobody is safe as the undead invade the town.
Making a last-ditch attempt to stay alive, four people end up barricaded inside a run-down hotel near the town centre. They have fortified the doors and barricaded the large windows, holing themselves up in the once-grand foyer.
The cast:
Hopefully I can get on with the modelling tomorrow. I imagine it will go pretty quickly...

Lovely concepts!
Updated first post with Rashid and Samantha.
So we're not going to see zombies?
havent seen a complete low poly project from you since ever! This will definitely be awesome!
Exactly 800 triangles including rifle.
Haven't looked at UV layout yet, might get a bit nasty since the torso is the biggest part and the top can't be mirrored.
UV layout actually went very well, didn't take long and I made a start on the texture. Mainly just checking to see if I have any pixels bleeding across UVs, the rifle has been set up so the UVs are all exactly on pixel edges so it should be really easy to texture.
Colours far from final.
Rifle close to done. I like how it's turning out so far, hopefully I can get the same amount of contrast and detail into the guy himself.
Lionel rocks so hard
Very charming presentation.
oh god. I didn't read 1929. silly me.
I have no idea what tourists were running around with in 1929.
Adam, great progress! Looks like a solid start, hopefully we can pull this all together by deadline
It's a space will play with for the final renders for sure.
I generally set things up as nicely as I can before I do the 'life' of the scene. I needed to get as much of the original foyer design done as I could before I knew what I'd have for the zombified additions to the room so I did the foyer first as it would be pre-zombies but still run down and unused.
As it turns, I have 500 triangles to make sure no zombies are getting in.
As a result I only got two of the characters built and textured, and those textures are horribly rushed.
Basically did the entire texture for Lionel and his pistol in under 2 hours, and then did some last minute rigging and posing tonight.
I am not submitting these myself, since Adam is on a closer time zone than I am, I'm going to bed now while he puts everything together in his scene and does the final renders, hopefully.
Shame I didn't manage to get more done, we do plan on fully fleshing out the setting and characters though - I'll model up the other two along with the 4 zombie ideas I had, and try to get a nice little scene set up, maybe even some simple animated fly-through renders. Should be fun.
Here's a taste..
One thing that's bugging me right now though is that my eye doesn't know where to go. After looking at it some more I think it's because the foreground and background are hard to distinguish from one another. Changing up the lighting a bit so that the values and colors are a bit different between the two could help a fair amount.
Hey, I know the feeling only to well. The entire last week was a complete no-go for me. You both did a fantastic job - plenty of character and I'd love to see you guys com back to polish it up!
