2D environment concept



Started Late... I wasn't very interested in entering the UC but I thought "Hell, why not".

Please be honest and if need be, harsh with your comments. I'm not searching for sprinkled sugar on top a pile of poop cause in the end it’s still poop. Please don’t hold back, especially if it seems like a bad idea or holds no attractive appeal to the criteria I’m suppose to follow. Obviously my intentions are to design something of extreme misery and horror. Evil is the name of the game, back to the drawing board.

Which concept are you starting from? That should be the first thing you post here.

I could have read the rules and regs wrong but isn't the concept references only for the 3D side of the competition. I thought if you choose to do Concepts Art that your "artistic chains are broken" leaving me completely free to design anything I desire...?

Ok, I've worked on a basic sketch of what I would like to go with. The sky has already been worked on as far as color overlay but I'm still messing with it so I didn't post the sky. I'll post a sky update tomorrow.

It's very organic at the moment but I plan on changing that. I'm still adding walkways, platforms, bridges, docking bays, statues and other structures to the scene. That's about it for now. Crits 'n' Rips welcome Plz...

Update from yesterday


Ok, here's the sky overlay I promised for today. I still plan on adding additional detail to the clouds/musk, but I'll get to that later. The large orange egg shaped domes are the structures that will be supporting docking bays and such...

Painting it now... Running off of fumes... Can't go on much longer... Not much sleep... Seeing things moving through the walls... Need first aid... Going to pass out... Someone punch me in the face!!!

Keep in mind I have a lot of work completed past what you see now, but I'm not sure where I'm going with it. It's looking the way I wanted it to go but I wanted it to seem a bit more evil than alienish (if that's a word). I will complete this challenge (O'happy days are here again!).

Please crit me. I would appreciate it.

I rushed on this project, Sorry guys. This is one of the first digital paintings I've attempted so I was expecting to hit some bumps in the road. I did noticed that my entry seems a bit flat and lacks contrast. I think this happened because I leaned more in the area of painting with fades and blurs... This is one of the drawbacks in my entry. I did learn a great deal from this challenge and will continue to practice in being a better digital painter.

I think you took it to a good place. I want to suggest, after taking a rest from it, you should definitely return to it. I feel devoting a few more hours to it, with fresh eyes, I can see this piece really shining after you let it digest a little. It reminds me of the centipede baby painting. I revisited it 3 times, after putting it down for a week or two, and each time it got better. It will be a very good piece for your portfolio and it displays your creativity and uniqueness. Thanks all for the words. I do plan on returning to this project so I can focus on areas I hustled through. I didn't give the glow much thought since I was in a hurry to turn it in... I'll stay away from that for now on.
