Very cool! Nice lighting, interesting shadows. Can't wait to see what the place looks like with some factory style background elements. The centerpiece looks like a cross between the bottom of a whale and a big heart. Keep it up!
We have decided to make the extractor unit bigger in order to enhance the massiveness of the HIVE hanging above. The Cardboard cutout Guy is just for scale :poly124:. We also added a void space surrounding the extractor because we are thinking about adding some sort of tendon like roots that will snake up from under the extractor machinery which might help balance out the space.
i would advise not to chamfer stuff so hard because the edge doesnt have the smooth shape yet pointy, and it looks like you are just using smoothing groups.
Thanks for your advice. We are actually cleaning up a lot of the details for the extractor and have decided to simplify the overall look quite a bit. Will post an updated version as soon as it is ready
we have pretty much finished blocking out the interior space. The Hive extractor has been re-worked and enlarged. We have also made the pit bigger. We are working on the rock details for the pit and exterior walls as well as the edge of the main walkway.
This is looking very strong. I like your framing as well. I think your render with the orange interior light looks great. The inner lighting can serve as a rim light for the cables and the rest of the set, which can be much cooler, darker hues, like dark blue or gray. I'm very interested in seeing where you go with this.
I've started to do some form and shape tests for the Hive itself using Zbrush. This one shows a bone like skeletal structure. I am thinking maybe using more of a freshy and meaty look.
I decided finally to try mixing the previous details together to see what happens and this was the result.....still a WIP though....still working on it. Might try out some texture tests soon.
Based on my last post. I started to do some texture tests for the Hives overall look. The Maps are 1024. Normal maps exported from my Zbrush model. For this texture i was trying to achieve a look that resembles rotting flesh......then i started adding some colder colors trying to make it more out of this world like.
Hi all. It's been a few days since our last post. We have been kind of swamped with work....but here's some new WIP updates. I have started putting together the textures for the Hive. Desaturated the overall meaty color a bit. Alphaboy and Chino have just started to do some texture tests for the surrounding scene. Hopefully i will be able to post some images of those soon.
looking great, wanna see how the light will turn out, at this moment some things are losing details because they have very similar colors, you could change the colors of that metal details to have more contrast (blue palette maybe?).
Thank you for your advice veteehrri. At the moment i think so too that we are losing some details as the material colors are very similar. I am thinking about also possibly maybe thinning out the grunge and dirt detailing. I will try adding some more contrast by shifting the hue towards blue for the metal and see what happens next.
Hi all, here is an update on the Hive roots that we have been working on. They are suppose to snake up from the extractor pit. The textures are still a WIP. We wanted to get the rotten meaty look like thingy going:)
We have placed the hive with the surrounding elements. Lighting test. Still trying to get the overall evil mood going. Some of the textures are still being finished.

Our team chose to work on the concept by Jaime Jones. We have started blocking out a rough model and hopefully will be able to post it soon.

This shows the enlarged Hive extractor pit.
Chino started doing some Zbrush tests for the extractor pit rock material. Here's a WIP update.
do you plan to zbrush the whole thing?

This one is another test for the Hive. I experimented with a more meaty tendon like look.

Still working on some lighting ideas as well but thinking about sticking to the safe principals of warm and cold contrast lighting.
Hi, here is an idea that we have been playing with for the rock surface surrounding the Hive extractor. Still experimenting with the overall look.:)
Hi all, we are still texturing the main environment. Here is an update screen capture.
Here is a vertical view of our environment. Textures are still in progress. We are also doing some color and lighting tests which we hope to post soon

Here is a lighting test of the different elements surrounding the extractor pit.

Hi all, It's been a while since our last update. Here is a process board showing the meaty roots.
This is the color/diffuse map that we used for the main wall textures.
This is a specular map sample of the main wall textures.
