Hell yea, it's one of the only places still open late night. When the coffee shop closes I know where I'm goin. Thanks Graff , I appreciate it...there's still so much more to learn...
I did the first pass on the material so I could focus on terrain come Monday. I tried alot of different colors for this organism, but Bobby's original concept seemed to work best. The bloated sack has a glow map. I really wanted some opacity changes too. We can always play with the material more once it's in the set. I also shortened the spikes a bit. The large spikes were a bit overwhelming
really nice looking compositions and lighting there pizza, cant wait to see in in all of its 3d glory. seems a little bit too purple IMO, love to see some more color variation. and good god, you guys have a lot of different plants.
My Goodness me!This is the first time i've seen this thread, its so awesome! Colours and atmosphere are wickedly vibrant yet moody at the same time. With so many individual models and texture pieces being done (awesome tileable texture sculpting - especially the fibrous one!) what is your texture budget on now, any clues on specs for say one of the shroom type things or a piece of terrain?
Most of the lil guys have a 128 on them. For our terrain we plan on using 5 or 6 1024s for all of it. I know we are eating thru that 4096 pretty fast. I havent been keeping track of our poly count because we are so far under right now, only 50k, that its not a problem.
Thanks guys, we really appreciate it!
Vahl, heard you're coming to Dallas for the Workshop. We'll definately be there to check it out.
I did some more work on our terrain based on Bobby's concepts. So far it's almost all completely seamless with a few areas to tweak here and there. Just don't look at the back side, heh. This is unlit out of the model viewer.
New screens showing terrain. We are going to be playing with materials for everything and have alot of work to do. Now that terrain is in we can further judge placement of plants and specific objects.
this project is coming along very nicely. one thing i suggest is that you add a little more slimyness on some of your . . . . ok i can't think of the right word, but stuff like those leaning vine things that Spetch posted. things that seem like it would be alive, moving and willing to eat anything that passed by it
We arent necessarily going for skulls and blood kinda evil, more like a place you would not want to touch anything, or be without a flashlight. It is definetly not a field with flowers and unicorns, and most certainly unearthly.
I think it looks pretty cool . I like the style, and it's sort of a WoW evil over a "we're going to eat your babies and their souls will haunt you forever" evil, which I like.
Dusty - right on. It's a bit easy at the moment to lose that 'evil' aspect with the bright colours and such. I'm really hoping you guys pull off the goal of yours for the final shots. It all looks great :P
EQ - Thanks for your valuable input and contribution. How's your entry doing? Oh wait..
We've been making changes to our set, will post screenshots soon. I took some time to remake the main tentacle for the Oogooploon and added some much needed details. We're trying to make it look more evil/dangerous.
Me and Spetch have been truckin away at the scene. Mostly lighting and atmospheric stuff. Things are coming together quickly tho and we think this will be one of our final camera positions.
yeah, shit be comin along. dusty, after lookin again we need to change up the glowy head in the foreground. I wonder how the ploon head would look closer to the viewer. Play wit this more tomorrow...

When I look at your plants I feel like I'm trippin on LSD or something. Really imaginative and well executed.
More rocks, I got lotsa rocks..... We just popped this busted rock into the set, more screens to come.
About as much as is evil in your entry.
Wow, harsh. If you get a plant that rips the tags off mattresses, I'm sold!
