Occt cpu too hot!!

Well with my new quad core setup and lionsquare heatsink, I was able to mash 3.3Ghz out of my processor with the system being stable and never exceeding 60degrees C. however, that was while i was setting up my room still and i was running the computer in the downstairs with a more open floor plan and better ventilation... my room however.. ugh. downstairs the system would idle at 38C and in my room im idle at ~44C as soon as i try to run OCCT i get about 4 minutes in before i hit my temp cut-off at 65C.... im not sure why im running so hot up here other than the poor air flow of the room itself.. i am using the A+ el-diablo case with the ginormus fans and the giant asus lionsquare heatsink. ive backed WAY off on my CPU voltage all the way down to 1.3 something volts (i could run 1.4 downstairs easily) do you overclockers out there have any ideas to retain performance without cooking my CPU (and turning my room into an oven)... thanks guys

What thermal compound did you use on the heat sink? How did you apply it?

That el-diablo case has 2 large intake fans but do you have a exhaust fan? The lionsquare heat sink really needs airflow going parallel to the motherboard so the side intake may not be helping. A 120mm exhaust fan behind the heat sink would help pull air through the lionsquare.

I used the thermal compound that came with it. and i just squirted it out of the tube and spread it as evenly as possible. an exhaust fan might be just what the doctor ordered as no, i dont have one. maybe tomorrow ill hack up one of my other two old PC's and steal their fan.... hrm..

Also worth trying to tidy up the cables inside the case if you haven't already, to help air flow. If you can, move the computer to an area where it can get better air (ie. not in the corner under a desk). During a summer at uni my room got ridiculously hot and I kept getting cpu temp warnings, I had to remove the side of the case and all the dvds that were on the shelf beside it (acting as a wall along the side of the case). That helped, but was just until the weather cooled down.

You may have used too much thermal paste (more is not always better), should be about a BB pellet size amount. Redoing that may help if you put much more on.

how warm is it in your room? maybe try to open some windows sometimes? :) no, seriously.. my own room always gets so warm cause I have my doors closed and what not... and it is pretty common for people's computer to overheat during summer. not sure how the weather is over at your place.
also your description on how you applied the thermal compound doesn't really say anything.. how much was there? cause you only need a really thin layer. VERY thin.. if you think you had too much then just use acetone to remove the old and re-apply some new. if you don't have acetone then your mom or sisters prolly got some for their nails.
