Agree about the kneecaps, they look more like giant scabs now.
Her upper arm gets very thin just before the elbow too, especially given the size of her shoulder. From the front view it looks ok, but I think I'd expect it to be wider in the side view.
Hell yeah, always dig your sculpts man and tank girl rocks
I agree about the arms, it doesn't look like you messed with them too much after posing. Also, the position of the biceps indicates a different axis for the elbow bend.
Looks pretty good. I agree with everything that has been said so far. However, I would like to add that she seams to have a pretty wide "man jaw". I could understand that might be intentional but it doesn't seam to match how fermement the body is.
I would consider making it more narrow and less angular.
Lo0ks good, you should really go to town on modelling plasters and stickers
all over her clothes and arms and do justice to mad art style of the comic.
On the boots...The material they are made out of looks like they are 6 inches thick...and REALLY heavy? and the upper arm as mentioned...I need to go to tank girl for some inspiration!
It looks brilliant, but Tank Girl has such a distinctive appearance that comes through her facial expressions and suchlike that it's kinda hard to tell its her with such a neutral expression on her face.
That said, it looks fucking awesome. Brings back fond memories of the old Q3A TankGirl model with the rocket-bra .
Tumerboy, rollin,Renaud Galand,Eraserhead,Rens,Jeansson,Mtg_kirin,Bobo: Thanks a lot guys! AimBiZ: Thanks, I've smoothed out the knees, ended up redoing the whole area MoP: Thanks! Yeah the arms were a bit tweaked, should look better now Funky Bunnies: Thanks man, yeah the elbow was sitting too low which threw everything off. jocose: I was going for man jaw, but you're right it's a bit disproportional, should be better now Kevin Johnstone : Yeah I'll defintely do that, along with some stitches, tattoos and crazy green punk hair. Quokimbo : You're right, I'll fix that on the low poly though. Steviant: Yeah, she's got a very expresive face, I'll have to do some expressions when I'm done to do it justice. whats_true: Don't think so almighty_gir: Thanks! You can buy them here http://gnomonology.com/tutorial/220 TWilson: Glad you like my arm pitts hawken: The comics have a very distinctive style, compared to which my realistic approach looks very different, so I can see where you're coming from. Hopefully the texture and other details I plan on adding makes it more regognisable. EarthQuake: Thanks. Yeah that face doesn't fit with the character at all, I've redone most of it. Still not happy with it though.
Still lots of little details and stuff to add, and some assymetry:
I'm moving on to the lowpoly now, but I'll add and change lots of stuff on the way there.
I've to disagree here. I like when artist give their own vision of an already well known character. It's not always for the best, but in this case, I think it's working very good !
I'm with Renaud. I usually want people to stick to the original material more closely, but that's usually because when they don't, it gets all fucked up. I think you're doing a fine job of capturing the "Tank Girl" look, while giving it your own spin. She looks great btw!
agreed, thats like saying "logan looks like this!" "no he looks like this" there are dozens of official interpretations of that one character why shouldn't jaco do his own interpretation of a character?
nice work, but i have to admit that i liked the plain sculpt way more, dunno the last version looks a little to manly to me.
I dont think you would need to change much to get the attitude in her face back. Somewhere between TG_Wip3.jpg and TG_TWip2.jpg she lost her smirk though.
Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated. Yeah this is more an 'inspired by' thing, I've gone for a thicker, older looking tank girl . I definitely want to capture that quirkiness of the original though, as Ruz said. At the moment I think it's missing, mainly due to the neutral expression, nothing some vert pushing can't fix I hope.
rollin: It's a very fast way of quickly getting a good base for your texturing. I convert the polypaint to a texture map when I'm done, which I assign to the high poly mesh. I use AUV tiles to unwrap it, so no time is wasted unwrapping. When I bake my normal map I also bake a color map, which is how I get the polypaint onto my low poly.

comin along nicely.I do hope that skin shader is just temp. I have never liked it, looks like a really bad sunburn. My friend went to comicon dressed like this chick!
I like the new tankgirl look, but the model does not fit the clothing.
It looks so very off, as if you have a poser basic looking model with wierd clothes. the technique is there but it has no character it feels flat.
I dont know about that evil
anyhoo,i just think that the purple around her eyes is JUST abit too much imo.
question, how did you project that cameo on her bra? i remember a tutorial by antropus a long while ago but i forgot what he did i.e. projecting pictures. it has something to do with planes or something?
stimpack: Thanks, yeah that material was just for showing the high poly, maybe not the best choice bitmap: Thanks! EVIL: Poser model, ouch Honestly though I fucked up on the design of this character. I worked on this in between other projects and lost focus somewhere along the line.
I think I've managed to unify things a bit now though, and bring back some character. Definitely learnt from this mistake though, concept first then model butt_sahib: I've toned down that purple. The camo on the bra was painted with polypaint, no projection. I ended up just using some camo I googled on the actual texture though. Thanks!
My apologies to Tank Girl fans, I've turned her into a cutesy manga girl, I really should pay more attention:
Shit boet, it has been incredible watching you grow as an artist. Your work just keeps improving and every new piece I see of yours is looking more awesome than the last. Fucking great stuff.

(knees already pointed out)
watching this thread now
Looking good!

any chance you can share your material though?
The elbows look to thin compared to the shoulder. Seems like the shoulder is too big and the elbows are also too small. Nice arm pitts though.

not very faithful to the comics but nice attention to anatomy.

Polypainted sculpt, some things missing here, and the skirt won't be just plain red:
Necklace is a placeholder here.
Still some optimizing to to here:
but i donยดt get it why pl use polypaint ?!
Only thing I would say is that tank girl is a little more quirky looking, you version looks a little older and more tired in the face.
rollin, polypaint is quite cool actually, you can covert the polypaint to a texture and convert the texture back in to polypaint.
tools are a bit limited right now though, basically paint and smooth
from what i can tell, your tankgirl is a bit on the buff side.
i'd say shorter, skinnier, eyes wider apart, and a wider mouth
Looks awesome to me Jaco ! Keep up the good work.

Still tweaking the back:
I'm digging it
The face is looking really good
seriously, that face is so catchy / cute ... wtf
Skin tone is prolly one of the best executions I've seen so far.
Seriously awesome work. I like the final facial expression as well, great execution!
