from my flickr:
I was walking past my local arcade today, the one with all the 50cent games (man it's impossible not enter) and I saw a poster for street fighter IV. I went in there to play tekken but ho-hum I saw all these people huddled around a few standard sized cabinets, so I thought I'd take a peek!
Took a few searches to find a HD version of the game, in another arcade, but once I found it, sat down, inserted my coin, I was pleasantly surprised. Felt a bit easy with a lack of moves until I got whipped repeatedly by the guys in the arcade who had - somehow - already mastered all the new moves.
OK so a few features:
id cards - these are pretty much standard now on fight-em-ups, although you can't modify the characters.
link play - if you play a game, it will randomly find someone else in Japan that has started playing and link you guys up to fight, a bit like xBox live.
graphics - slightly cartoony. That toy background evidently didn't make the grade.
New characters - some fat guy, a chick with lightening. Nothing special really.
Gameplay - just like the street fighter we know and love. None of this 3d game space nonsense like vf and tekken; you are playing on a purely 2d plane.
general feel - very well animated, seriously capcom, highly detailed, lack of characters. Very well presented.

re: if i can't button mash my way to a win, I'm out
Man, arcades here in Washington are extinct, even Gameworks, the damn near last arcade (unless someone knows of another, do tell) in the Seattle area ripped out a large portion of its arcade area to make a sports bar with pool tables and dart boards. It's a hard knock life here in Washington.
Still though, really looking forward to playing this.

Can't wait for this!
What's this talk of no Akuma? Really? pffft.
you can counter and rack up combos... still need more time with it to see whats possible.
ebagg; thats a real shame. I know in the Uk there is the same situation. fortunately here in Japan they have moved with the times and made most of the games somewhat unique to the environment. Gone are the rows upon rows of cabinets though, it's mostly UFO catchers, photo club, horse racing and football managers. With the rest of the space padded out with gambling machines. Driving sims are down these days too.
Even though the lack of proper arcade games exist, there are at least 6 game canters near my station, all of them about 4 levels high.

I'm as terrible at it as I have been every other Street Fighter ever, but damn if it doesn't look nice.
wow and here I thought every Asian played Guilty Gear
No but I thought all the hardcore 2d fighter fans did
Even with my bitching, I'm going to have to hit it up one time after work or during my lunch break.

Don't know how good the quality will be. i've always been meh on madcatz controllers, but they've always been good extra controllers
I was VERY much anticipating it, but when I finally played it (10 matches), I realised how garbage it actually is.
It's closer to Street Fighter EX than any of the 2D ones. The general character controls just seem off, everything kind of seems 'floaty'.
It looks like they tried to tighten the feel of the hits, by adding a pause everytime you make contact with them (pretty long delay too), which completely distracts how you string together combos.
I have no idea what's going on with the hit collisions. M.Bison seems to be able to kick 2 feet above my head, to be able to hit me.
Priorities are messed up. When you Blanka Roll and E Honda torpedo at the exact same second, it hurt both players (but occasionally one player would get hurt depending on where they were in their animation... which was also kinda arbitrary).
What kills the visuals for me, is that playdoughy flat shader look on EVERYTHING.
Maybe it's a lofty comparison, but a game like Soul Calibur completely blew it out of the water visually, that it's hard not to notice how flat everything looks. The effects look Killer though, but thats about it.
I dunno, building up in my head how awesome I thought it was going to be, I am so completely and utterly disappointed by this game.
鉄拳も大好き、SF4より。
じつは、最近そのゲームは有名じゃないな。
じゃPMで鉄拳のやて会てくれな!「笑」
Actually these days people are just playing Tekken. I had a go on the new Tekken at Tokyo amusement machine show. Fekkin rocked!

I currently own a Sega New Astro City Cab, Sanwa JLF Stick, Sanwa Buttons, blah blah. I ordered a Viewlix L Cab for Blazeblue and This. The price for the SF 4 kit is insane right now, infact it's more expensive then the cabinet. I may just sell the Viewlix and buy a clone to make of the difference. But it's a must have -_-
KOF is a geekfest, but i'm happy with thier descision to avoid 3D and go hi-res 2D.
