I started up again *trying* to model I'm no expert but I can try right? dont expect anything amazing because im not in school for this I kind of taught myself but i had help from some video tutorials on the net and im only 13 Crits are welcome say whatever u want anything helps thnx
looks good so far, but you could lower the polycount of the gun barrel, and you need to tesselate the faces with more than 4 edges. (like the butte of the gun) But other than that, its just fine!
if you have any questions,, just ask

PS.. No need to mention your age when posting work. It doesnt give people any sympathy
That's not bad for being self-taught. But you need to cut on polys if you want to stay low-poly. I made an image paint-over to give you some crits.
Also, if you don't know already, games typically only accept 3-sided polygons (triangles) and 4-sided polygons (quads), so make sure you have no polygons on your model that has more than 4 sides.
Yep one important thing off the bat is to consider if the geometry added in will help with the shape and silhouette...if it doesn't like the excessive sides and three loops on the cylinder above gun barrel you should take them out...also makes it easier when you are ready to texture...
I started looking into 3d when I was 11 or 12 btw.
I easiest way to block this gun out is to import reference and model on top of it. Even with the reference in there it's no walk in the park. I would block it all out then go in and refine things. Also keep the shapes with as little polygons as needed and add it as you match the geometry to the reference.
looks like you're off to a good start, but yeah, Brody pointed out exactly what I was thinking, and Reference is a must, get that on a plane back there and it will make your life much easier.
and damn, you're smart starting that young.. I started when I was 19
Its good to see your starting early in life Im jealous. I didnt get into 3D programs and photoshop until I was 18-19 years old. Just remember focus on your artistic skills first...sicne your so young..Thats much mroe important then learning software.
As for the model, post the reference your using to model this, I dont know an ak in and out but there looks to be a few pieces of geometry that should exist.
I cant tell from the newst pics but you should probably work on getting the barrel parallel with the grid in stead of pointing up.
I think you need to google some more reference images and possible use a good reference image to model from. Just create a plane, and place the image as a material on it and it works good.
Heres another update i tried to fix the barrel it still needs some work done to it though. As for what game im aiming for I would say CS probably not source because this is low poly but like 1.6 or sumthing
One thing (two actually) you can easily save polygons on are the tubes just above and below the gun barrel. They currently have 5 height segments, but seeing as they're straight cylinders, they only need a single segment.
And personally, i'd make the barrel 8/9 sided or something, sacrificing detail on the front of the front handle because that's not seen from first person view anyway...
This is actually starting to look really good. You just have to remember than any polygon with more than 4 sides is DEATH, and you have a lot of DEATH on your model. And as Snader pointed out, the piece above the barrel has a lot of loops on it that don't define any shape, so eliminate them.
Ok I think im about done theres still a few more little details i could add but im gonna try and unwrap it and just paint it in but we'll see how that goes I also cleaned it up as best as I could by following the crits which I appreciate very much if you have any tips on the best way to Unwrap it I would appreciate that aswell
Extra UV space is wasted space! Tighten up those graphics....err UV's.
Looking good for only 16, but I heard Ott modeled all the gears assets at age 12 using only punch cards.
im only 13 actually if it really matters ive downloaded texporter and ive started texturing it so ill post an update as soon as i get someone worth showing

and i do use a ref while im modeling in the program but i hide it for when im taking pics
I kept practicing, and by age 6 I was pretty good at it. Here's an early sculpt:

Work on stuff and you will learn. I learned how to UV map 2 years ago and now I have a paying job! :P
loding......
haha just kidding!

the crop tool is your friend, just a little anal with the lowering of the polycount, texture that sucker.
The red is where you should smooth it over to give a smoother curver,
refrence for you
hope that helps
now just a quick question if i did them right do i now just saved the picture and start photoshoping it?
