Maybe it would be a good idea to have a new subforum in which people can discuss their portfolio(websites). It seems Pimping & Previews has turned into a crit-my-portfolio forum lately

I think a subforum for it would have an extra value, people could also discuss web-design related issues there and ask for help with flash/html/scripts etc. The 'how to set up a quick portfolio' and similar threads could be moved there and I can already imagine a 'kickass portfolio reference' thread happening

Anyway, its just an idea!

Since you are in the idea giving mood, could you look at my portfolio quick? Yeah, just kidding. Sounds like a good idea to me as well. I've been noticing more and more of that stuff in pimping and previews. Might be to the point where a subforum would be justified.

If I might engage in wild speculation, I think its reasonable likely we'll see something portfolio related in the new fancy additions that are being worked on for Polycount at the moment.

there has been a large influx recently. i'm against the forum becoming convoluted but i think it would be appropriate to seperate portfolios.

Agreed with Meisse. While it's a good idea in general I can't help but think and convulse when I look at CGTalk. Granted I check P&P sometimes multiple times a day, I don't think we're getting enough threads to be bumping individual critiques down the list to the second page too quickly.

Hopefully people just keep the courtesy of declaring 'portfolio' in their thread names for those not wanting to look at them if for some reason you don't

Astro a valid point, but I think most employers that know about PC know they just need to post into the job post section and await emails.

The more subforums = Waste of admins' time, more mouse clicking which is annoying...

I don't frequent some of the other forums as often because they have too many subforums containing redundancies...

the deeper and more spread out the forums are the less overall reading happens.

there tends to be longer more detailed feedback on portfolios than on anything else ... i can see that thread quickly becoming obese and pretty confusing.

That said ... a lot of the feedback applies to lots of different portfolios anyway, it wouldn't be such a bad thing to have it all in one place. Cuts down on the repetition

Why not just have a "Standard Portfolio Feedback" sticky, and then ban anyone that posts their portfolio?

I'd just like to add that there is nothing wrong with portfolio's, and I don't mind the threads being in P&P right now at all. I was just trying to convey that a subforum could be beneficial in general, just because you are too lazy/busy to click 2 times does not mean the people who are interested in (giving) feedback are.

Some kind of general portfolio feedback READ THIS FIRST sticky sort of thing might be really helpful... if people used it. I'm sure people would read it, but they'd probably post their portfolio for crits anyway without making those changes, in hopes they'll get feedback not included in the sticky (which they probably will).

I wouldn't be surprised if Brome had some kind of zany polycountfolio thing up his sleeve a la cgsociety. That would be neat.

Hmmm, out of all the ideas mentioned here, that would be the worst. I have noticed that all the oldbees and admins are looking for a solution to keep the boards clean, while in my opinion you should look for the option that helps the people the most. Just my 2 cents, we'll see how this turns out
