Hello everyone, i am Benoit, this is the first time i post here beside i am a long time admirer of the works featured in this forum.

At last i decided to jump in the water and to send you some images to ask feedback and improve the work.

Here is the shoot (i hope explicit) i made of my paris hilton model in Blender:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/livingmesh/2608916016/sizes/o/
2608916016_4aed55d89d_o.jpg

and here is the reference file I used:
http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/2983/gabarithiltonpo7.jpg
gabarithiltonpo7.th.jpg

The aim is to do something attractive for my portfolio. What's more attractive than a celebrity? So i picked up some shoots in my favorite gossip magazine and started to built this model.

Celebrity is cool, but that is better when people recognize you. So I would like the topology of the face really fit the original. Second constraint is to stay low and keep a clean polygon flow to sculpt properly in Z-Brush.

In my opinion the overall volume is OK, but there is something stiff around the mouth expression and i don't see how to fix it.

Thanks by advance!

i read the title "Advices for Paris Hilton face" and my first thought was: my advice would be a flamethrower :D

the model looks good i think even though the lack of hair makes it feel kinda gender less to me. this would pass just as well as one of those handsome bald space marines that are so popular now a days ;)

    cant say much about topology

hahaha this is great, it really does look like her very much, and very low poly which is hard to do. That famous smirk of hers is very clear haha. Looking forward to seeing her hair and texture! I'd like this as a ppm for Unreal3!

    Won't comment on the choice!

However it is very obvious from the side shot of your mesh that you did not really use a side view at all as a reference...
Veterans know that as 'The Angelina Jolie Syndrome' :P

Yup, to echo what pior just said, the jaw looks too deep. This is throwing off the position of the ears and the size of the skull.

    That's hot.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist - please don't ban me ...

Anyway the overall silhouette is look pretty good but I think the meshflow needs a little tweaking. Try not to have the loops be all jaggedy, cause Paris is an organic being (or as organic as plastic can get) so you'll want those loops to represent the curvature of her face as well as deform properly for animation.

And speaking of that, it looks like you're missing the loop that goes across the nose, around the nose and under the jaw. That could be easily fixed if you make it out of the edge midway down the nose (which would eliminate that nasty 6 arm vertice you've got going on under the eye).

The loops on the jaw should be open about 1.5 inches and the cheeks puckered slightly. I did a paintover to help you.

and to get back on topic the topology looks good, but i think we would be able to give you a little more help with likeness by seeing a smooth shot as well.

Hehe Swizzle that's for old timers :
At some point everyone and their dog were making Angelina Jolie models - when the Tomb Raider movie came out.
There was that one nice promo shot that many modelers used as it was even posted on some head reference website, aligned with a front view. But if you looked closely you could see the second eyebrow on the outline : it was far from a side view. As a result all the Angelina models got a huge, bulgy forehead :P

Hello every one, thanks for your advices even if i don t understood all of them. but anyway i tryed to folow them and sligltly rework on the face mesh.

Then i began the hairs that you can see there. Do you think it is a good way to make low poly hairs? does it fit to the original?

Looks good so far, Ben. 2 crits for you, though. First of all, after looking at your side view reference, it looks like her forehead needs to be flatter, and second of all she needs more hair here:

Looks good so far. Keep it up!

My advice for Paris Hilton's face.... k I won't go there, other people have already :P

It's looking really good so far, I was impressed with the likeness already clear in your first post. However, the one thing that bugs me the most is her jawline--right now, it's looking far too masculine. I think you need to define the cheekbones more but bringing them out and pushing the area just below them in a bit. The line of the jaw itself is close but I think the angle of it is just low enough that it's looking a bit manly. Try to raise the angle as it heads to the ears a bit higher and see if it helps the feminine feel. It's hard to tell if the hair is going in the right direction or not until it is more complete.

Keep it up!! Can't wait to see it done--I think?

Oh! and p.s. Paris Hilton has a lazy eye that she tries to hide but is ever-present. (her right eye, I think?) So, I hope to see the final version with that in mind!! :) I'll be most upset without it there...

Havoc: Yes you are true about the forehead, the hair thing looks obvious now you pointed it!

Mezz: yes i already felt this jaw problem, moreover many observers told me about it. I have to fix it and find some "scientific" method to distinguish men and women...
If you have a quick sketch solution to fix it, feel free to draw an exemple on my image!!! it will be welcome!!

    Thanks both for the crits!!!

Well, since you asked so nicely :p

I think those changes would help her feminimity :)
Just remember--when dealing with females, everything to them is SMOOTH, SOFT curves. Hard edges make for more manly-looking people. So hope it helps! :D

I think the hair planes don't really work on this one, they go in too quirky directions IMHO. It can be really difficult to judge how to place planes without a texture, so I suggest you start by painting some nice hair alphas. In these alphas I would try to avoid too much fading, instead draw with a hard brush and high opacity, and try to capture the interesting curly strands you see in the ref.

After you're done with that, map those on some geometry and then start modeling. It allows you to treat the already drawn alphas as geometry, and really judge the shape you're getting.
