ok so im doing a Red9 for a class about inorganic moldeing for games and thought "why not enter it in the contest?" . Its a boring design and i dont have any chance against "competition" ( teabags EQ ) but its been fun , ill be posting the highpoly during today .

Looking forward to seeing this being fleshed out.
Is the 9 supposed to be backwards on the right side of the grip?
But sir you made this look sexy! Nice work.
Alex
o wow. I would love to know what render settings you have or how you achieved the nice AO with the specularity. For some reason whenever I add in AO it just overpowers everything else
Looking forward to updates! eagerly!
I demand lowpoly and textures, kthx
yep i was, but you know me : lazy.
@ vahl : NO YES/ dash !
looks purdy!
1. Do the same kind of baking as EQ for your shodows (AO from highpoly, AO from lowpoly, detail from crazybump, gradiant ramp)?
2. for spec is the same bake used as from the diffuse, or perhaps a heightmap with some other overlays?
3. Someone else already asked about your renders, but it it safe to assume they done in passes (like AO + whatever)? they always seem to have nice depth to them
Anyhow, it's coming out badass so far. Looking forward to seeing this all pimped out with dif+spec when your done. keep us posted
Rulaz home!
also, some curvature baking could do wonders, yus
1. Yep he's doing exactly what i do.
2. Same AO should be used on diffuse and spec.
3. No renders, realtime screenshots from marmoset engine(8monkey lab's model viewer) Nothing fancy done to them at all, just simple screenshots.

FPV SHOT FACK
excellent work. quite a backstory. fucking nailed the tattered wood shoulder stock (and pretty much everything else).
Amazing work! I'd be interested to see what brushes you used to destress your metal? Or is it all just hand painted with round brushes?
i think its a tad better than eq's contest entry
would love to see the full res textures
Textured shot looks good too.
My main crit would be that a lot of the metal looks, I dunno, really "soft"... the scratches seem really wide and deep, and since every sharp edge is scratched, it just kinda rounds out the whole thing, dunno if that's intentional or not.
This is most noticeable in the firstperson shot, all the scratches look really handpainted and the whole thing seems a bit more "organic" than "manufactured".
I'm being pretty nitpicky though, it's great work.
But don't forget, next time add skillz!1
Yeah he does tend to add that extra bit of polish to his work that i seem to neglect
