Hello polygon counters.
I thought I'd start a thread for my hobby character, Thor. Comments and critiques are welcome as always.

I took some screenshots while I was modeling. This is mostly for the people who asked me about edge loops when I was working on Crusher. I never gave you a good answer. So here is one thing I do to help me. I often find that starting with a blank slate like this makes it easier on my brain.

Looks like your off to a good start good luck.
Out of curiousity, have you read any of the new series? Coipel draws Thor in a very bulky way, something that was never really done before. Almost like the way Buscema drew Conan:

You really want to make a fan of Marvel's Asgardian heroes happy? Model up a Beta Ray Bill.
Good luck with this and...
Have at thee!!
I'll bulk him up as I sculpt in Zbrush though. He's definitely lacking good leg muscles and a strong jaw.
Can't wait to see where you'll take this. It'd be neat if you really pushed all that 'comicbook chisel' in his face, as well as the chunky manhands and knuckles!
Cool. I have the scanned copies of the new series; just let me know if you need them for reference. I don't care much for the Ultimates line at all, personally.
Something crossed my mind last night about the basemesh build; it's not that he's not 'muscular' enough, I think the initial issue is how many heads tall it is. Comic heroes are usually 8 head-heights tall and the base mesh looks to be 6.5 - 7. Just a thought.
Hopefully he seems thicker now. He's eight and a half heads tall. The armor and stuff should help too.

I haven't decided how to make the hair yet. Planes and alphas or sculpted chunks?
Looking forward to seeing more, smoother versions, the ZB facets make the model look hairy, maybe I need coffee...
One thing I'd say at the moment is the hands seem a bit small and super-blobby. Obviously it's still WIP but I'd definitely enlarge the hands and smooth the fingers out a tad.
I have always looked up to you and Bobo the Seal and learned allot from your clean cut edge looping methods that you both use. Thor Rocks!
hope ya still dig it.
I'm diggin' the boot armor
Thanks for all the encouragement so far! I do hope to rig and pose him and maybe add some rainfall post.
Hammer next!
Curious what he would look like if the dark gray was navy blue and the cloth red and the belt, cuff, and maby the helmet were gold.
Looks good so far, but I agree with erik on the monochromatic scheme you got going, unless you have something in mind for the armor later on.
Thought I'd make this quick outline as well though:
Crit - I would taper that glow more on the chest parts, it seems a bit strong or cover the lights with a metallic mesh texture.
Would be nice with a high res turntable at this point, to get an overview of how the maps combined react when it catches the light.
PS. It's so nice to pose a character again! Been a while.
it might just be my monitor, but you might want to lighten up the dark body armor bits because they might be a tad too dark.
fucking sweet though man, I wish I had the tenacity to finish things like you do-
The first is obviously the paintover.
Keep pushing it ;]
I.E. clean alpha, and with no sorting errors?
