Just built this a few weeks ago and it's still minty fresh:
Intel Core Duo 3.16 GHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 280
4 GB of RAM
XFX nForce 780i SLI
22" 1680x1050 LG monitor (and I'm going to get another one as soon as possible)
500 GB internal HD, 300 external
Vista
I also have a couple of laptops, one of which I'm typing this from, though neither one is terribly impressive.
Nice Swizzle, hows the GTX 280? I was thinking about upgrading to one but I want to be sure the drivers are all good first. I had nightmares with my 8600 and driver compatability initialy..
Everything's just peachy with it so far. I've had no compatibility issues whatsoever and every game I've tried runs silky smooth, even Crysis on full settings (well, except anti-aliasing).
Sweet. Nvidia had a real bad spell with thier drivers for a while with the 8xxx series. I'll check around a bit more but I will probably end up getting one (hopefully 2) of these bad boys in a few months.
Intel Q9550@3,8GHZ
CM 690
Noctua NH-C12P <--- very cool and quiet, 39ºC idle ^^ at 3,8Ghz!!, great at renderings.

Asus P5Q

Not really a fan of computer gaming anymore. I have a console for that, and it's a much better experience. So I don't bother buying GPUs anymore, or even building something. I just buy a cheap rig off the shelf.
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
1GB DDR 2 Ram
Nvidia GeForce 6100
21" LCD ~ 2ms, 3000:1, 97% CFL (Love it)
Windows Vista Home 32bit (best OS I ever had)
Runs fine for what I do with it. Message boards, programming, low poly 3d work.

Teh? Perhaps if all you like is adventure games or third person shooters. A console will never beat a PC in terms of playability when it comes to games like FPS' and RTS'. But if you don't like those, I see your point.
I'll be upgrading after the new year. Had mine a while now, over 2 years now. I put it together about 3 days after Intel launched the Core2Duo. I plan on getting a quad core chip, 2x 8800GTS cards for cheap performant SLI, and go from 250 to 500gb on my raid setup. Over $1300 cheaper than when I first built this rig, hah ($2200).
Consoles have a ton of genres that never see the light of day on the PC. Especially my favorite genres. There's a few games I own on PC and my consoles, and I prefer the console versions. If you want to see what I like, click here....
And on the PC it's the same 2 or 3 games over and over again, with requirements that keep doubling. It's getting to be insane. Everything looks and runs like shit unless you want to constantly have the best machine, with the most expensive parts. Then you have all the bugs and DRM issues. I loved reading a post not long ago, somewhere, where a guy bought a new mobo and 2 overpriced videocards for a game that crashed to his desktop on startup. :poly121: I have a few PC Games. I wasn't a fan of upgrading just to be able to run expansion packs, which should run on the same specs. I have a few GPU cards sitting on a shelf here just collecting dust. Such a waste.
I'm looking forward to Battlefield Heroes though, unless they up the requirements. Otherwise, the only PC gaming I'm interested in anymore is my own little creations. Once I get a 360 next year, all my programming efforts will be targeted towards it.
I think most people here keep they're systems up to date for creating *art content* not bragging about how many 1000's of fps they get in quake3, so the upgrade argument is pretty moot. Maybe if you were on game-faqs it would be relevant.
by today's standards my current home pc is a pos. Athlon xp 2500+ with a radeon 9000 pro. I'm waiting to see what intel's new processor does to the market before I buy a new rig.
Well, keeping your system up-to-date enough to run the current editors and the games associated with them is important, especially if your making maps.
I was given the chance to build my own system for work, and I built the same thing for home a few weeks later, only it still running XP.
Most parts are ASUS
nForce mo bo (forget which model number)
Q6600 2.4ghz
4gb ram
2x GeForce 9800GTX 512mb (running in SLI mode most of the time)
500gb SATA HDD
300gb external
Vista 32bit

Indeed. That was actually why I built my new machine; I've only played a single level of Unreal Tournament 3, but I've spent hours in the editor.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 @ 2,50 GHz
8 GB of RAM
Some decent graphics card...
1 decent 24" dell screen that is colour-corrected, a slave 24" Samsung that's decent for games (fast!) and a 12" Wacom Cintiq...
I like it, I just wish Windows XP 64 wasn't so goddamn buggy.
*arrgh this thread is old Ive already commented in here lol*
Ive been saving for a new PC for a few months. mine just doesnt cut the mustard anymore, gonna get antec solo case, 600w psu, q6600 2.4ghz, 4GBram, nvidia mobo, 1TB hdd and put in my 8800GT and sound card Ive already got. Im just trying to find the best parts for me at the best price, so far Ive priced it at around £450 for the whole box.
