If you have a symmetrical model and you mirror the UVs is that considered overlapping? Or does overlapping UVs just mean when two islands are intersecting?
When you mirror uvs like you say, the uvs are completely intersecting, ea perfectly ontop of each other when you merge them. Guess that depends on wether you merge them afterwards or not. Assuming you do, yeah I do think that counts as overlapping.
Well if you offset them off the page you might be able to get away with it but it depends. I suggest you ask. But yeah mirrored uvs are overlapping if they are referring to the having every part of the object have it's own unique uv space on the texture.
