Midway Seattle Technical Artist

Surreal Software Inc. (a subsidiary of Midway and the studio which brought you The Suffering and Drakan) is seeking a talented Technical Artist who will bridge the gaps between our Art, Programming and Design teams. In this role you will represent the technical interests of the studio’s art department and facilitate the technical requirements of the Art Director and Artists. You will drive technical art understanding and implementation within our development team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Driving the technical aspect of art development through advances in tech process, technology and automation.

• Communication between the Art, Programming and Design teams.

• Researching and promoting new techniques and helping to train the team in their use and ensuring that art assets are optimal for performance.

• Pipeline/tool chain design

Requirements:
• Ability to model and texture in 3D.

• High degree of technical aptitude; ability to communicate effectively with software engineers.

• Wide understanding of the game art process, techniques involved and their correct application

• Experience with documentation of technical systems developed for video games.

• Minimum of three years of applicable industry experience.

• Strong technical aptitude related to 3D modeling tools and game engine technologies.

• Fluent knowledge of Maya.

• Experience with programming or scripting languages a plus.

• Prior management experience a plus.

• Must perform well within a collaborative team environment.

• Experience with UE3 / or comparable 3rd party engine / editor

• A genuine enthusiasm and passion for the industry, and the art of creating interactive entertainment of the highest quality and standards is a must!
