Hey hey everyone!

I'll probably be posting mostly 2D stuff in here, since that's what I really want to get better at at the moment. i do enough 3D at work already but maybe I'll find the time for that as well .

Stuff i posted before in the sketch thread:









trying to step away from this colorized gray scale sketch gimmick though.


Here is a cheesy first drawing that was going nowhere, so I'm gonna leave it at this:



i had a different approach on this one, started sketching it out with lines first for a change:


i really want to work this one out more and get rid of the line work so I'll be posting updates soon .

hey Peris, great to see your sketchbook here. i've admired your scene setting and color work since you've been posting on polycount... why don't you post all of the recent ones you've posted in the sketch thread to this thread so we can see 'em altogether?

Really glad you decided to start a sketchbook in here. Been diggin' your sketch thread updates for a while. Any chance you could save snapshots of your next illustration, maybe every 30 or 45 mins or so, so we could see your method? Just a thought... would love to see how you work your colors into your pieces and layer things.

Either way, I'm gonna be watchin this thread

hah... solid piece. I think you chose a good spot to call it done. Nice touch with the dude at the gas pump. Do you keep a paper sketchbook?

Looks awesome! but is he filling up a gas pump with his ship? looks like he's taking a gas nozzle from his ship and filling up what looks to me like a gas pump.

very nice work! Are the brushes your using custom? I really need to brake out of my comfort zone. I tend to use the same 3 brushes for everything.

thanks everyone. I only used 2 brushes for this, a custom solid sloped square one which kinda feels like a felt tip, and a fuzzy cloud brush i used for the steamy bits.

In the future, spaceships run on rechargeable battery chambers. He's just plugging the battery into a power outlet. I know because I've been there.

Peris, I love your atmosphere and use of color, also some very nice compositions, but seriously... Find the time to paint more. I've come across your stuff several times and said "oh cool! wait.. I've seen this before."

You've got some skills, so apply them! Let's see some new stuff from you!

What's the idea here? Wolfenstein shadow of the colossus? It somehow gives off that vibe, probably due to the colours.

Ack, noob-fail. So yeah, Doom-guy. I see the difference now. I'm liking these shapes, although I wish you'd define more of the mechanical parts with some linework rather than merely blocking them out. It can be simple, just something to give an idea of the rivets and divisions.

I think the body needs to twist slightly at the waist to compensate for the angle that youve painted the legs. The long flat specular on the tummy/abs makes her tummy look wide and not toned, the shadows around the waist could also emphasise her figure more. The fingers are like skinny sausages so there needs to be some shadowing but your probably on to that. Nice colour choices!

very cool! her right shoulder looks chopped off though, because it has such a straight line. i agree with ged on the rest. the legs seem a bit rigid.

his right hand is a bit small, that is one funny looking suit(giant nipple vents? and bunny ears, lol)

cool character! One thing that sticks out to me right now is that the lighting on the character is flattening him out. Hope you don't mind I did a quick paintover to show one way you could handle it.

Hey thanks a lot, that looks much nicer! I guess i always end up with flat lighting because its easy to adjust details. I blame my texture artist background.
I'll make the hands bigger and not in such a lazy position as they are now.

new wip, added more detail and started playing around with colors

gonna work some more on him tomorrow, and try to make him blend better with the environment.

I think the armor and face could do with more color variation, it's just red/blue at the moment.

Maybe make some of the armor parts darker or have a different color.

That golden ship paint is awesome, really looks like it's glowing! Only crit I can think of is that some of your paintings could benefit from more color variations. Saving this stuff for inspiration
