Added the vertex paint just to get a better look & feel so I can compare it to the original better. Its at 440 tris so far, still need to add some small crablike claws to the bottom of its 'torso' and refine the pipe thingie on it's back. Tips more than welcome
nice! I would add some hilights to the white fleshy mouth/eye. Try making your beam FX additive instead of normal blend mode. I dont think that will show in the viewport, though.
Kwakkie, go to Preferences -> Viewports -> Configure Driver. Set texel lookup to Nearest and mipmap lookup to None (this is for the D3D driver, OpenGL has something similar I'm sure). This works for me.
Very nice recreation of a really cool monster! I'd like to see it animated

Its pretty though to 'fake' a specular map that looks good from most angles, especially because the original model is so 'shiny'!
PS: How do you guys disable the texture filtering in max? I still seem to get some small softening on the texture in the viewport
