The Orphanage

I'm not sure if it's playing in many theaters any more, but I highly recommend seeing 'The Orphanage' if you can. It's a wonderfully scary story that manages to be a proper film at the same time.

Anyone else catch it?

It looks creepy, where can one go wrong with ghost kids? It's always fucking creepy.

Oh yeah, I saw this movie about a week ago, it's superb. It had an awesome atmosphere, great story, plenty of moments that made me jump and overall just a great film. I definitely got my money's worth.

It's entirely in Spanish as was Pan's Labyrinth. Funny, one family got up in disgust at the realization that it was entirely in spanish and made quite a scene as they left the theatre. So as they round the stadium seating wall someone shouted, "Hasta la vista!" Had me rolling!

Haha poor family, having to watch an entire movie in another language, lol! I'm very much looking forward to this film also. I've only read good reviews so far. It should be a nice break-off from all the torture-porn that's currently flooding the horror genre.

Yeah, when I was buying the ticket, the lady asked me, 'You do know this is in Spanish with subtitles right?' When I said of course, she replied happily, 'Oh good! We have lots of people walking out and demanding their money back.'

What a sad and silly thing to hear.

It doesn't immediatly strike me as looking as good as Pans Labyrinth or the Devil's Backbone, both of which it shares a lot of thematic similarities, but I think thats probably as much to do with the terrible trailer as the overall quality of the movie.
I look forward to this eventually turning up at the local art house cinema.

Yeah, that trailer is something of a misrepresentation. I'm not sure it does a good job explaining what the film's about.

The trailer is playing up the horror aspect of it, which is very much present in the film, but there's more to it.

The average horror buff is not going to be wooed by a trailer that promises 'Bone chilling horror... with heart, humanity and drama!'

I love Guillermo's 'independant' films.

It's actually directed by a different guy who had previously only done music videos. But it's pretty obvious Guillermo had given a pretty substantial helping hand in this one.

It's lush with his visual style and camera work.
