Iv lost count of how many people use his basemesh and fail to mention that it based on arsh basemesh , i dont mind people using stuff for learning, but now making their personal work around other people work is a bit weird.
Now you say "But man, Arsh posted the model for it to be used , otherwise he wouldnt have done it!". True. But i dont think he would be expecting to see people making everything from it except sculpting.Dunno .LAzy people, do your own stuff.
Sorry for the rant.
edit : some grammar edition.

at least thats the impresion i got from the time working with him.
so, you set the fire and then leave?
lol
ta foda!
lol
And yeah, don't think Arsh cares much either way, really.
Or am I the exception to the rule?
so yeah do whatever you want, with whatever i make that you can legally get your hands on. obviously some employers dont want me passing out their models, and thats fine with me.
But i have never seen why artists are such babies about their art..
if someone is ganking your stuff then you are better than them and they cant make it on their own, and you win. if someone gets a job with your work and they cant produce work to the caliber of yours, they get fired and they lose. these things take care of themselves as far as i am concerned and have better things to worry about.
now go make some awesome art with my base mesh, and then tell the world its yours.. cause the moment you change it, it really is imho.
My point is that its lame seeing so many people that dont even know what an edgeloop is to use your basemesh and claim is as their own. Sure they will face consequences from it or not , but still is lame , and thats what i mean.
And i refered personal work exactly for that is personal work, its YOUR work, if you are working professionaly its a different story imo.
it means the exact opposite of "could care less". It's not hard, is it?
Alex
i mean really whats the worst that could come of a world where bad game artists used good game art when they couldn't do it themselves???
better looking games?
this is just me though, i haven't met too many people who think this is good idea except every programmer i have ever met.
hah yeah i really don't care, i wouldn't even care if someone put my work in their portfolio to be honest. the thing is, i made it and i could make it again, and if i do i am sure it will be better than the first time i made it. i also dont care if someone made big posters of my work and sold them for money. that person, if profitable is smarter than me casue i didnt take the time or effort to do this with my own work. i dont understand the mentality of owning your work, really the only time i feel i own something is while i am working on it. when its done then anyone can do whatever they want with it as far as i am concerend. if i really thought i owned my stuff then i could never never work in the game industry and give my work to my employer when i am done, or let someone animate it, as soon as you do that, its no longer yours anyway.

i think i have an entire character portfolio at my disposal >: )
j/k i luv joo
Actually in spartacus I would have shouted 'I am spartacus' , just to claim credit for his exploits:)
hmm, actually if I had done that I would have been arrested, so perhaps not
Personally I am with johnny on this one. They should at least mention whose base mesh it was, its only good manners
That said, I do give credit to you whenever I remember, because it just feels right. Hell, I even host your damn basemesh now because you didn't bother to keep your domain alive, you lazy/busy bum :P
As for not using my own basemesh. Why should I? I have the competence to make one of my own, but if I can cut one step I don't like doing from the process, then I'll sure as hell do it. Besides, I always retopologise the mesh at one point or another, so it would be like doing the same work twice. Besides (again), I always edit the basemesh heavily beforehand so it will suit my needs.
Still, credit where credit is due, though I'll say it right now I'll forget to give it sometimes, but it's never on purpose. If I make my own basemesh one day, it will probably look almost identical to arsh's, because those loops are optimal for me, and I'm sure as hell won't break something that works just for the sake of originality :P
its annoying when you dont have the portfolio or experience
but ive found at work, its the best form of flattery, when i see a plant, texture, painted sky or technique plastered across someoneelses level it shows they appreciated it.
THEN THEY GO AND BLOODY IMPROVE IT
I'd love to see cause i'm lost
@ Danr : oops your right , funny i never thought about that hehhe.

No, you could care less. Because you made the thread, then stopped caring so much about it. If you could not care less, then you would not care at all, making it impossible to care less. :P
*highfives danr*
Although really, having learned a lot of my english through the internet, I know what it's like to learn something wrong. I once thought 'U' was the polite form of 'you', since this is the case in dutch (u/jij). It wasn't long before I noticed it was used chiefly by lazy typists (typers? tipi?)
then/than is also a very difficult one to learn from such an illiterate bunch of fools as your common interweb/youtube-comments person.
if i really thought i owned my stuff then i could never never work in the game industry and give my work to my employer when i am done, or let someone animate it, as soon as you do that, its no longer yours anyway.

Great attitude!
a base mesh or texture is just your time and knowledge (valuable but completely replace-able) a concept or idea is worth a whole lot more
Its the only way to progress.
In the game industry you always end up worlking on other folks stuff which is cool if they are really good:), but when I do my personal work I always build my own meshes.
Building a generic base mesh that other people can work on is actually quite tough.
As for the basemesh, Arsh has made his intention and stance clear. The only people that people who say that it is their own are cheating are themselves.
Anyone hear about the cricket here? Damn, that shit is whack.
fucking art
(drawn with a wet rag on sooty walls, the city washed it away the next day)
besides, i only like twenty twenty meh.
Same as Arsh, no credit needed. Use it for anything & everything, I don't care.
