I really think, that duke need some redesign... Those black sun glasses, and the haircut remainds me the 90's to much... God, it's 10 years - world changed a lot.

yeah he should dye his new long hair black, grow a goatee, wear a tshirt and have piercings all over then we'll touch today's gaming generation personally. Oh and replace his lines with "I DON'T CARE"

And please don't point argument that two worlds have shitty grafic becouse it was made in Poland - The Witcher was made in Poland (CD Projekt RED) and Painkiller also (People can fly). You can't compere this two, becouse the amount of cash they spend on Two Worlds is really small compering to the budgget of Duke...

That was exactly my point. 3D Realms has massive piles of money and easy access to the world's largest talent pool of video game artists; they have more to work with and should be expected to do better.

Oh, snap. emownd. I guess the some of the asshats at my uni would actually love to see that.
So far it looks like L4D meets Halo but some parts are nice like getting knocked on the floor.
It's a multiplatformer. And there's health regeneration (at least it looked like it, when the guy got shot by a rocket the screen went red, but then it went back to normal after he ran away. Of course this could be just a near death "experience".)
Getting mixed feelings about this, I'm hoping the demo will be released for PC.
I wonder how many assets Gearbox is using from 3drealms.
~ My thoughts exactly. Imagine playing the game, seeing your entire collection of assets that you made, then seeing someone else's name at the end credits
be interesting to see what the end game is like.. not that it matters.. it could be a bowl of turd and it will sell like mad.. Duke is one of those IPs that has appreciated in value over the years not because they did awesome things with it but precisely the opposite.. absolutely FA.. I think the hype has got new generations of gamers interested and I bet when the game goes on sale only a small percentage of people would have played the old games. still interesting.. I know I'll buy it..
ae, it's a game where the integrated tutorial on how to aim is Duke pissing at a urinal. At one point you rip out a cycloptic boss' eye and punt it through the uprights on a football field.
I'm sure Gearbox will give credit where due. It's the just thing to do and IGDA has some recommendations on this too.
It's pretty sad in a way how close finishing the game 3D Realms actually was this time around. Then to see it fall apart in the last months, but it seems most of the folks got to work on DNF even after the closure. Triptych games consisting mainly of ex-3D Realms vets and Gearbox hired a load of them too. id Software picked up a few vets too.
I feel bad for anyone who has to work on this game, this kind of game doesn't make sense in 2010 why even bother?
That remains to be seen? At least the media attention was huge @ PAX. People who played have positive things to say about the game. Of course it's not the be all end all game some people might require it to be. Still, it should be a great shooter.
And ae. What kind of game is this? Last I checked it was a FPS... are those just not popular any more? Tell me where the market is trending, so that the rest of us game developers can make stuff that makes sense in 2010 and beyond.

Personally, I'll take a FPS with an emphasis on entertainment and humor, like the way Duke Nukem Forever sounds like it'll be, over the Call of Duties of the world any day. I think it'll be a breath of fresh air in the FPS genre. I don't know what about it doesn't make sense in 2010.
When I was there at the demo for the game, the guys from Gearbox were giving credit where it was due. They even made it clear that they weren't the ones ones who actually finished the game.

I read something similar in an interview. Don't think Gearbox are trying to take undue credit.

Good to have some inside info on this. I was afraid gearbox had gotten their hands on the game and in an effort to release it quickly ditched all the unique hard work done by the core teams. Now that i know the core of the new duke is mostly unharmed I'm pretty damned stoked for the game nearing release.
I'm sure things are bleak right now for the original teams, but i have a feeling the history of duke will go down pretty truthfully. It's development history is already legendary and on release there's sure to be plenty of talk about its development. If the core is awesome, people will know why.
Can't wait for the Yahtzee review of the actual game.
duke is going to rip off the heads of/shit down the throats of the haters, by having a likely decent, if not good game.
and I don't think they should change his design at all. it's better than the gears-uv-wurrrr musclebound stuff going down, which is nice, but a bit old. Granted duke is muscular and macho, but god dammit I don't care, he did it first.

Some gameplay was shown.

According to George Broussard, pretty much all of them.
Edit: Do note that more then 10 of the people working on DNF at Gearbox came from the DNF team at 3D Realms.

I read that earlier today. I'm glad to see you too got a nice job after leaving 3D Realms. Too bad you guys had to leave it so close to completion
